Understand ev1's wish to see SBST's equipment on SMRT
routes...
As of now, unlikely to happen, given reasons above, transport
authorities want the public to have a fixed mindset that there are
territorial service operators in SG, SMRT bus operations are still
intact despite this labour fiasco.
Remember this point, transport authorities are downplaying the
issue so as to over blown this to a diplomatic issue with
China.
There are too many contrasting issues at hand here, the world is
watching as how we handle foreigners working in SG...
I think it is time to start off with one or two areas slowly
transferring from SMRTB to SBST. Maybe start with Yishun or Bukit
Batok.
It has shown that SMRTB do not have the capability and capacity
to run public bus routes in the long term. Should give 2 to 3 areas
back to SBST to run. Probably they will have enough resources to
run the bus services of other areas properly. Should SMRTB to scale
down by about 40%, probably it is still justifiable for SMRTB to
operate bendy buses on just feeder services only.
Sad to say, this is just my point of "why we cant just let SMRT
do as it wishes and ignore since I dont live there" as many of the
people have pointed out everytime people say that bendies are
trouble and so on, being driven home.
Why shld people bother about what SMRT as a private entity
does?
Because its a PUBLIC SERVICE they are providing. Any trouble
they cause will have spillover effects into the rest of the
market.
When will the kids get this into their heads?
Trust me. They won't. They think that running a bus company is
like running their fantasy bus companies.
SMRT kena scolding already from the COI.
Now SMRT kena scolding round 2 from MOM.
They love screwing up themselves with their heck
care attitudes for so many years. But I hope the new CEO will
do something about the current management which he has admitted
that it is one of the cause for SMRT Corp problems. Best is to
replace the current bunch with a better one.
Entrepreneurial cannot be taught in schools by i see local unis
teaching it as a module which i find it amusing...
When i look at SG's SMEs, there are no lack of entrepreneurs from
Mr Quek of BreadTalk, Kenny Yap[Qianhu], Gain city's boss and many
others pioneers before them.
they did not take any course, they have the instinct, foresight and
guts, these CANNOT be taught in an aircon classroom...
Classroom taught entrepreneurs are the same cookie shape and CANNOT
think out of the box...
just look at the head honchos who took scholarships and heading
stat boards, GLCs now, look at the companies and see if they are
doing well?!
The sad irony of this country: too much emphasis on grades and
certificates and neglecting creativity, self confidence and guts to
venture out and differently. And the govt still blames its own
citizens for this while it is their own education system that is
the root of the problems.
