Some things you might not know about the formation of
Trans-Island Bus Services (TIBS)
- the Singapore Shuttle Bus has an initial plans of having a 2nd
full-day bus company in 1981, and has already been surverying the
northern parts of Singapore (Woodlands and Sembawang). It engages
the ROV to study the plan for full time bus firm for Woodlands and
Senbawang.
- the final naming of the company, Trans-Island Bus Services, was
chosen on 1 May 1982, and intends to buy 209 new buses with a total
cost of $60m. Its buses were being rolled out in the yaer 1983-85.
Its incorporation of the company was on 31 May 1982.
- SSB's initial plans to build a $3 million Ang Mo Kio Depot in
1980, but its plans were later being scrapped. However, the new
TIBS Ang Mo Kio Dpot was constructed and completed in 1986 to
handle maintenance works and housed its headquarters in the depot.

- Three other private bus companies, the NTUC Comfort, Naval Base
Bus Services, SB Transnet Enterprises and SSB alone had shown its
interest in running its Woodlands and Sembawang lines.
- Its inauguration of TIBS operations was started on 3 Apr 1983,
with 2 services 160 and 167 taken over from SBS.
