Hi Vera,
Intermodal travel would necessitate transfer, so action
should be taken to reduce the "transfer penalty".
To name a few:
Singapore has constructed transfer "hubs", where passengers
can make train-bus transfers in air-condition comfort.
In the area of fare integration, Singapore has moved to
a "distance-based fare" system, where passengers pay by total
distance travelled, regardless of the number of transfers made.
See www.publictransport.sg
Some major bus stops show bus arrival times on a display
panel. Bus arrival times are also available on the phone/internet.
This reduces uncertainty.
