Which is better, Scania K230UB or MB Citaro O530?

I personally prefer the K230UB layout. Because I dislike rear facing seats, and the 0530 rear seats are a little too high for my liking.

it seems like everybody forget the old 0405 bus also has facing seats. and comfort wise 0530 is ten times better than KUB. you can compare both bus by taking same service like 28 which has both bus operating on the service. you will get enjoy rock and roll with kub. with 0530 it feel like a MB car on the move.

SBS and SMRT should order more of the bus if LTA want people to give up cars and take public transport SMRT has it on premium bus service which is very good. So when SBS can has it on 502,518 or Chinatown bus service the CTxx or even some of it premium service? The bus should appear for long distance service example 143 51 151 2 8 90 147 157 10 139 the list go on..... I wonder how good is the SMRT MAN bus?

Citaro can be configured to be able to take crush loads if desired.

For the compartment before the rear doors, its possible to configure it to side facing seats as such used in the kubs. Another option is as per what is used in the Mark1 bendys, with only 1 seat on either or both sides of the vehicle.

After the rear doors, if the rear facing seats are not wanted, its possible to configure the seats at the wheel arch to 3 side facing seats as used in the N113.

Samples of vehicle configured in such ways are available from specification sheets from mercedes-benz's website.

Hopefully they can order more buses designed for higher capacity such as dd (and bendies, but limited to MRT connecting services e.g. feeder/intratown) instead of more single decks.

Crush loading single decks is not the way to go. If a dd can carry all the pax on the single deck, whilst still allowing more passenger to board and alight, it will allow better and faster alighting and boarding times at a bus stop.

seriously it's not crush loads come to think of it.

Imagine svs like say 66, 67, 170 tat plies Bt Timah. Students has their bags.

Even if they move in, the narrow aisles makes it a turn off.

It's just of being able to carry more passnegers comfortably.

For Citaro, the rear steps problem is just pushed to become individualised

I prefer the Citaros, at least I am not afraid of falling down the 2 steps when I trying to alight the bus like the KUB, especially the bus jerks when it stops.

I don't encourage crush loads, and I would rather have more double deckers instead for a more spacious and comfortable ride.

I prefer low entry buses (ie steps at the middle). But in terms of overall experience, the Citaro is obviously a better bus, so maybe a Merc LE chassis would be great (for which there are the Evobus OC500LE, Evobus Citaro LE and the Mercedes Benz do Brasil O.500U).

Personally I find the Citaros better than the K230UBs, with the absence of the steps towards the back and a faster and smoother ride.
But the drawback is the narrow aisle to the back. Probably that is the reason why SBST do not want to configure the Volvo B9TL Wrigts to full low floor.

Maybe Mercedes Benz should address this problem for the Citaro 3 model. SBST should get the Citaro 3 if so.

If there is a choice between choosing 0530 and the MAN A22, i would prefer the MAN A22. its rear facing seats are not really steep; the bus is way powerful than the 0530. Although i would say the middle rear seats have no view at all (a thumbs down) , the MAN A22 is pretty much better overall.

O530 interior is defintely not suitable for public service. Although it is stable and quiet but basic things like A/C, seats configuration are badly designed.

Performance of the Mercedes-Benz and the MAN buses is very similar if you compare similar engines. The Citaros in Singapore have the base-model OM 906 hLA engine - a 6.4-litre engine that produces 210kW and 1120Nm. If you were to specify the same buses with the OM 457 hLA engine in either 220kW / 1250Nm (as fitted to the SMRT OC 500 LEs) or 260kW / 1600Nm ratings, things would be very different indeed.

In the same way, it is possible to specify the MAN with the D 0836 LOH engine - a 6.9-litre engine that produces up to 213kW / 1100Nm.
