Are there any bus ply Hu Ching Rd in the past?Thought saw a SBS bus pass by Jurong Town Pri Sch when i was a kid

Did you remember wrongly? 171 never use DD before during the SBS times.

Service 171 never had DDs, mostly it has NAC/OAC mercs before TIBS took overr.

Ulu Pandan Terminal - sv 61,188.
This terminal was located adjacent to Clementi Rd and Ulu Pandan Rd. It was later being converted into a seafood restaurant (in the 1990s) when the terminal closed down in 1986.

Marsiling Terminal - sv 180 (old), 182, 950, 951, 952
Located at Admiralty Rd (Marsiling Estate), closed in 1996.

Sin Ming Rd Terminal - sv 130, 353, CSS 5 (605)
In the past Service 130 used to teminate at that terminal before it was re-routed to start from AMK. Later Service 353 was introduced from the terminal itself to serve the Bishan New Town, but re-routed and renumbered to 57. CSS 5 (605) all along served at this terminal and was withdrawn in 2004.

Sembawang Terminal - sv 171.
The terminal was located at Sembawang Rd, just a few distances from Mandai Rd. Sv 171 (Sembawang - Queen St) was extended to Yishun and the outward direction extends to Marina Centre. Do not confuse with Sembawang Road End Terminal.

Macpherson Terminal is currently the carpark outside the FC at Blk 79A/79. back then Circuit Link was non-existant so all services have to enter/exit the estate thru Merpati/Matter Rd.

Potong Pasir Terminal is along Ave 3 where Blk 138 is.

South Canal Terminal is at South Canal Rd in between Nth/South Canal Rds outside OCBC Ctr. Noticed South Canal Rd from 2 lanes suddenly widen out to 4?

Upp Serangoon Terminal is located near the current Serangoon Sec.

I think Macpherson and Upp Serangoon terminals ceased operations because the bus services are moved to Eunos and Hougang Central respectively.

How about the others???

Somapah Terminal's actual location is at the current Expo carpark. Delta Terminal's location is at the current heavy vehicle parking lot along Havelock Road, near Gan Eng Seng Sec Sch. Punggol Road End Terminal is currently the looping point of 82.

I am interested to know especially, Old Upp Thomson terminal (service 71 uses full Mercedes OF1417s with Hawke bodies), Potong Pasir terminal, South Canal terminal, Princess Elizaberth terminal which service 173 and 193 uses full fleet of Volvo B57s with NZB bodies.

Princess Elizaberth is an isolated area in Hillview Ave with the private housing estate and it is the only bus terminal or transportation commute point in the 1980s, why was it demolished in the early 1990s??? Thanks for the valuable information.

Punggol Road End Terminal ceased operations during the NEL rationalisation in 2003. As for Delta Terminal, it ceased operations in the mid 1980s. Somapah Terminal ceased operations in 1989.

Yes, when SBS was formed in 1973, I think it had been there for the routes in the Northern regions, probably for services in Woodlands, like 169, 178, 180, 181, 182, 372. Not sure about 160, 161, 164, 167 and 171.

Talking about 164, is there a SBS Hino demonstrator in service 164 before???

And what are the official dates of TIBS taking over 160, 161, 164, 167, 169, 178, 180, 181, 182 and 372 in the 1980s???

svc 171 (when it was under SBS) used to have LO2x perm right? i remember years back i saw a lo2x on 171 parked at yishun bus int

171 initally uses Mercedes Benz OF1417s with Hawke bodies in the 1980s and early 1990s. Probably there was a few "cameos" of OF 1417s with NZB bodies for a short period of time. Then the Mercedes Benz O405 non air con and air con buses took over the OF1417s in the mid 1990s. They are usually parked in the extreme corner of the parking lots of Yishun Interchange,now where the bendy buses are parked now. Remembered seeing the O405s doing a full steering lock to the left and how extreme the front wheels turned as they reversed out.

Even 171 in the Nee Soon terminal days, I doubt there are double deckers on the service. But 169 have double deckers during SBS days.

The old 72 route(Serangoon - Tanjong rhu) and the old 158 route(Toa Payoh - Bedok) did have some changes along the way. What exactly happened??

You forgot 197. It was amended to JUE along with 241 (later 331). 196 was also BNL, but was shortened to CLE in 1992 to avoid duplicating 198. 165 also terminated in BNL at one stage.

For service 196, it went to Boon Lay in July 1990 then Buona Vista in June 1992 then Clementi in November 1992. It did not duplicate service 198, from AYE, it plied Jln Ahmad Ibrahim, Corporation Rd and Boon Lay Way (as in today's service 178).

I don't recall service 165 terminated at Boon Lay.

There is an interesting story here to inform also.

then 125 terminated at Shenton Way along with svc 400. it was odd then. Svc 400 was a full BRAM svc So for meal breaks relief, svc 125 was chosen as the meal break crossovers. So we saw HGDEP amrk 3s jump from 125 do svc 400. this was in 1994 or so.

after so many many years, svc 125 was amended and became some Sims place and st mikes svc serving kallng ind park, totally losing its orginal service chracter and route. But the 125.400 crossover stays on till today.

Service 125 plied between St. Michael's and Bukit Merah before service 131 (then St. Michael's - Shenton Way) took over part of its route. Service 125 then became a loop service between St. Michael's and Shenton Way, I don't recall it terminated at Shenton Way terminal.

In summary,

service 125: St. Michael's - Bukit Merah became St. Michael's - Shenton Way loop

service 131: St. Michael's - Shenton Way terminal became St. Michael's - Bukit Merah

The old 72 route(Serangoon - Tanjong rhu) and the old 158 route(Toa Payoh - Bedok) did have some changes along the way. What exactly happened??

Service 72 (Serangoon - Tanjong Rhu loop) was withdrawn in June 1992. It plied Boundary Rd, Upp Paya Lebar Rd, Paya Lebar Rd, Tanjong Katong Rd, Mountbatten Rd, Fort Rd and Tanjong Rhu Rd.

Service 76 replaced service 72 route between Boundary Rd and Tanjong Katong Rd when the former was amended to skip Ubi Ave 2, Eunos Link, Jalan Eunos, Still Rd and Still Rd South.

Service 158 changed from Bedok - Toa Payoh to Bedok - Serangoon (in the late 80?). It plied New Upp Changi Rd, Siglap Rd, East Coast Rd, Mountbatten Rd, Tanjong Katong Rd, Dunman Rd, Old Airport Rd, Mountbatten Rd then continued with present route to Serangoon.

On the same day when service 72 was withdrawn, service 158 was amended to become the present route. The sector between Bedok interchange and Tanjong Katong Rd was replaced by service 40, which plied Telok Kurau Rd before it was amended to ply Siglap Rd.

Anyone can explain the story of Service 194 that was withdrawn in 1994. It used to ply between somewhere in Raffles Place and Yong Siak Street

Service 194 was a loop service between South Canal terminal and Yong Siak St via (South Canal Rd), (North Canal Rd), New Bridge Rd, Outram Rd, (Tiong Bahru Rd), Tiong Poh Rd, Guan Chuan St, (Chay Chuan St), Yong Siak St, (Moh Guan Terrace), Kim Pong Rd, Tiong Bahru Rd, Outram Rd, Eu Tong Sen St, (North Canal Rd).

hougang depot is a fairly new depot. roughly opened in 1988. as such ur answer is falwed.

198 when brand new was JRDEP based. lots of new new o305 of 198 were 24xx also suggesting it had BNDEP (opened in 1981) roots.

198 later became Jurong with the LO2x and with O305s from HGDEP, the other o305 zao to 197 (i think)

when 198 got sliced at mei chin in early 1990, the Lo2x remained on 198, suggesting 198 became full jurong.

it was only in more recent times when SLBP opened in 1995 then 198 zao to BBDEP. For reasons unknown , but service)_239 suggested off service running time is short. I once had a BC of 198 tell me about "the short cut from BBDEp to Boon lay" int , that i din understood at all..hahah

64 when brand new started from Ulu pandan to macpherson, suggesting it was of Hock lee origin.

it was later invovled in a big mess of amendmentws involving 190, 191 14 and 32.

this was when 64 was under the PJRBP1529 1592 were ran on 64
Much later 64 as u know loop at mei Chin. and ALDEP was still around

i spotted 1155 1195 1395 1400 on 64.

because 64 ended at Macpherson Est - it was probably close to BNDEP. as such many BNDEP buses found its way onto 64. but all these chnaged when HGDEP opened

and u know the rest of the story.

BNDEP buses had 4 series rego. I think the 2 series ones ended up in HGDEP when the old Bedok depot closed.

St Michaels route group was handed over to AMDEP from HGDEP in 1st quarter 1998. Services 74 and 165 went to HGDEP in exchange.

Add on in 2004, Serangoon route group came under HGDEP in exchange for Eunos route group that went to AMDEP/BRBP.

Service 132 was handed over to HGDEP in 1997.

If St Mikes routes were HGDEP, explain why there were CRBs serving on those routes up to 1995 and NAC DM Mercs thereafter.

I remember 3639 went from AM 124 to BN 16 before settling down on 225.

Just want to know, which western depot controlled 502 when it was still serving between Sengkang & Boon Lay? Was it ever under bbdep together with 507? Anyone recall the original fleet of 507 before it went under slbp control?

So the 3 depots, bbdep jrdep jrbp were individual depots in one district or were their bus interchangeable? I don't think they exchanged buses right?

During that time all the buses serving 188 were parked in jrbp, just like buses serving service 77 which were parked at arbp instead of bbdep.

bbdep used to be very crowded when it was still operating the CCK, Bt Batok and Bt Panjang routes.

But by the time 188 was re-introduced in around 1998/1999, Bukit Panjang route was already governed by TIBS.

Agreed with you, before handover, BBDEP/ARBP was overcrowded. But after handover, number of buses at BBDEP became lesser whereas HGDEP became more.

To conclude, TIBS took over north-west area whereas SBS took over north-east area in conjunction of NEL.

hgdep took in a lot of buses. amdep and bndep were also affected. Those 920x VO3x from 10 were transfered to hgdep, while 10 receives LO3x from 106 which was handed over to Tibs. And I saw 9037L on 87. LOL.

166 was under majority amdep. After 67 and 103 handover, 166 Mercs from amdep went to 103, 166 went majority control under bbdep, using Striders from 67 (1913K - 1917A, 1931H - 1933C).

143 was moved to majority jrdep too. At the same time bram took full control of 88 from bndep.
