An SMRT bus hit and killed an elderly man crossing a signalised
pedestrian path along Gambas Avenue towards Sembawang at 4.35am on
Tuesday. The bus driver immediately fled the scene.
The driver was arrested at about 9 pm yesterday at his home in
Clementi, after 17 hours.
The bus involved was a O405 with Nikon ad.

Hit-and-run driver caught
A 59-YEAR-OLD man was arrested in connection with a fatal
hit-and-run traffic accident on Tuesday.
A 73-year-old man, crossing a signalised pedestrian path along
Gambas Avenue towards Sembawang, was by hit by a vehicle at 4.35
am.
The driver did not stop and left the accident scene. The
accident victim sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead
by paramedics at about 4.55am.
Within 17 hours from the accident, the suspect was arrested at
about 9 pm at his home in Clementi.
Motorists who fail to stop, when involved in an accident, to
help the injured party face a fine of up to $3,000 or imprisonment
of up to 12 months. For a subsequent conviction, the offender can
be fined up to $5,000 or jailed for up to two years.
