That is because the E231-500 running on the Yamanote line has
cars that have 6 doors on each side and cars that have 4 doors on
each side.
6-door cars (10th car) phrasing out due to platform door
installation.
By capacity, I meant the 11-car configuration compared to our
6-car. Although our trains are said to be able to carry 1920
passengers, that is already 180% load factor according to JIS.
Yamanote Line hits a maximum of 205% loading on the Ueno to
Okachimachi on the outer loop.
A standard E231-500 can carry 1744 passengers at 100% loading
(seats and handgrips fully occupied). 205% means 3575 passengers,
and that is what I meant by real capacity difference.
MRT reguarly hits 210 to 230% loading in morning peak and
holiday periods. Even in the evening it can hit 170 to 190%.
