They won't use WAB or new buses for that matter. They (SMRT) are scared that the buses (say, OC500LE) might get damaged by buggers who have nothin' better 2 do. 1 time, I saw a 160 Mkiii with wat looks like vandalized seats.

Are you saying that such a thing won't happen right here in Singapore? Even if there are vandalism on the cross-border buses, more than likely that the locals are the culprits.

The O405s..... Both from SBST and SMRT , got heavily vandalised 1 time.... SBST spend SGD $1,000,000 just to replace seat covers , get rid of vandalised seats .

Fleet size of 950 is less than 15 to begin with. Full day bus shifts only 9.

Actually SBST will face this problem earlier than SMRT, given that they had not purchased any major SD buses after DM3500s in 1997 until the KUBs in 2006.

(And don't tell me that CNGs can operate across the causeway)

Wait... Just how many Mark IIIs are deployed on 160 and 170? If it is let's say 50, will there be enough DM3500s?

no.... SBST wont face problem earlier than SMRT. there is 50 DM3500 with deregistration date of 25 dec 2017... let say with 2 years extension, can at least last till 2019 christmas.... still got 9 more years.. by the time, the KUB will be at least 12 years old, time to send it to JB roads already...

If 447C-466Y batch gets extended till 2020, i'd say records are already broken though for SMRT.

But not possible though, max till the max can only go until 2015, that's when all the mercz OAC/CAC batch are gone.

why worry so much? they can just use the Hino/Merc Volgren. both are the same design... can use up to at least 2018 with lifespan extension.... by that time, OC is around 10 years already... old enough to let it go to JB..

using mercz volgren i'd say wasted, but not hinos though, but don't see the point of using mercz volgrens there.

why use merc volgren is wasted? It is still a Merc, which is using Volgren body only. by that time, the merc will be very old already. Nothing special about this Volgren body also.

yeah...apparently, we have been lucky to be indepentdent form malaysia back then or else we also suaku like them...no bendies, no DD,no volgren,no OCs,no volvo buses etc...then where are we bus fans are gonna chase after?
