RETIREE Teo Chin Hye visits the Kuan Im Tng Temple in Tembeling
Road every weekend.
But taking a bus from his home in Bedok to the well-known temple
can be a hassle.
Like him, many devotees also take bus service 33, which operates
between Bedok and Kent Ridge.
Now, packed buses and long waits could be a thing of the
past.
Come Oct 18, SBS Transit will start new service 33B. Buses will
ply between Bedok and Joo Chiat Place, close to the temple.
The service will be activated on the 1st and 15th days of the
lunar calendar - but only if these auspicious occasions fall on a
Sunday.
Apart from Oct 18, another date this year is Nov 1.
Ms Tammy Tan, SBS Transit's vice-president of corporate
communications, said the company had noticed a boost in ridership
on service 33 on auspicious dates, especially if they coincide with
Sundays.
Hence, the introduction of 33B to target the temple
devotees.
'The surge in ridership is only relevant for a portion of the
route, so it would not make sense to deploy more buses as ridership
returns to normal after the Joo Chiat stop,' she said of service
33.
