SBS 2888T and Training School

I heard from one of the 518 BCs driving 2888 that SBS Transit had considered scrapping it several times, as it was causing a lot of problems.

(this was several months ago.)

So apparently deploying to training school will hopefully lessen the problems for 2888T. Though i feel it's possible SBST sell this to a company also operating a fleet of L94UBs.

yea, as they might have more parts than SBST.

Sad.... 2888T nvr on revenue service from now already. Occassionally i will catch it on my other journeys, but now no more. Still remember one time i was at Pasir Ris waiting for svc 12 and 2888T appeared. By the time i asked my aunt whether i could take it, it already gone off

Sorry guys. SBS 2888T will not be deploy on normal revenue service. She will goes back to Training School after each maintenance and servicing, for training new Bus Captains.

sbs 7207b : there is nothing wrong with SBS 2888T, except being the only model bus in SBS, makes her uneconomical (technician-to-bus ratio, inventory to be carry etc) to be maintain and run on the scale like the larger fleet. In fact, SBS 2888T is very well behave when she was runing on service 518, prior being assign to Training School.

I miss her too...

Sorry to burst your bubble...but 2888T had to be one of the biggest mainteinance nightmare.

It wasn't just the chassis that in the end, was left as it was, one of the 2 EDS backlight was spoilt for years and only replaced recently.

Kinda like the Tridents as far as mainteinance is concerned, only probably worse if possible.

EDS on SBS 2888T ? Not that I know off ... (however, its does really look like EDS from afar ... upon closer scrutiny, is just an oridinary sign with pot-dots yellow colour on it)

Maintenance , no nightmare. Just that the economy of scale is not justifiable to run on revenue service. Certain spare parts may not be readily available when needed. (comparing 10 to 18 hrs per day on revenue service, to about 2 hours per day use on Bus Captain training).

Scania Singapore support will also comes in to help, if encounter technical problem on the bus. In short, no worry. SBS 2888T is good and reliable.

Hi to all

I am an ex-SBS Transit bus captain and had driven SBS2888T before. This bus is pretty reliable, it is quite well maintained as there is support from Scania Singapore. I have heard from my ex-colleagues its due to spare parts issue that they removed SBS2888T from revenue service. I would give SBS2888T a rating of 8 out of 10.

I won't deny the bus is pretty reliable...but the fact that spare parts was an issue would have been trouble enough.

What I pointed out about stuff like the EDS backlight really mirrors 9671E which went around with half the EDS practically invisible.

This shouldn't have anything to do with Scania, unless of course you point out that its because they found it pointless to maintain it properly because the bus has a lack of spare parts to run on in the first place. And that the bus would have to lay-up for an overhaul which eventually it did....and it came out pretty fine.

But dont forget that for some reasons, 2888t got this problem with the air suspension which they didnt solve for years.

2888T is a dot-matrix/flip-dot destination display. When TIBS introduced it on their buses, it was considered by them as EDS and so the label stuck; It doesn't necessarily have to be LED display (though this is now the new standard by all EDS manufacturers).
