SIXTEEN companies and a
business association have been called to account for allegedly
fixing the prices of express bus tickets from Singapore to
Malaysian destinations, from 2006 to 2008.
The Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS) yesterday issued a
Proposed Infringement Decision against the Express Bus Agencies
Association and the firms, which now have six weeks to present
their own arguments.
“Price-fixing is considered a serious infringement of the
Competition Act. When businesses collude to fix prices, they are in
fact agreeing to stop competing and gain financially at the expense
of the customers. The CCS takes a serious view of such harmful
anti-competitive practices,” said a commission spokesperson.
The proposed decision is a written notice setting out the facts and
reasons for the CCS’ assessment. Parties can then argue their case
and submit information they wish the statutory board to
consider.
Because the CCS has not yet finalised its decision, it did not
release details of the case for now.
The 16 firms are Alisan, Enjoy Holiday Tour, Five Stars Tours, GR
Travel, Grassland Express and Tours, Gunung Raya Travel, Konsortium
