Still wondering how they are going to make fares distance
related. Setting up bus gantries at bus stops?
I believe the fare stages will still remain intact, just that
the method of calculating fares will be different.
For example, currently a person boards service 36 for 8 fare
stages, and transfers to service 111 for 3 stages. So that's $1.09
(8 stages) + $0.67 (3 stages) - $0.25 (x-fer rebate) = $1.51
When distance based fares kicks in, he might only pay $1.19 (8 +
3 stages) instead. This way, he wont get penalised by the transfers
he made for taking the shortest route home, but that is still prone
to fare increase.
Then again, this is only my interpretation. They might still
penalise passengers a little for making transfers.
