Although MAN buses are popular in Malaysia, the same can't be said for SG. SJE is the only operator with regular buses while SBS only had 1 unit. Recently, Five Star Travel have acquired new MAN DD coach(es) but the marque still remains scarce here. The prospect of having MAN buses in SG is something I have been looking forward to. I hope this new demonstrator will provide good feedback and hopefully it will lead to the purchase of more buses.

I suppose it could be that the dealership (STK) has not been active in promoting nor bringing in the bus products, preferring to focus on the trucks and military-use vehicles instead.

Very likely it would be registered as SBS8031J. SBS8029S will be skipped.

i like MAN buses ever since when i tried them on Causeway Link svcs in JB. not forgetting the engine sounds too.

If the MAN demo comes with a ZF, it would most probably be a ZF6HP504, which means to say it should be the first bus using the new and quiter Ecomat-4 gearbox.

However, if it comes with a Voith, it would most probably come with a Voith D854.5 gearbox, which means to say that it would be the first 5 speed Voith in Singapore. Don't be surprised at how fast the gears change.

No, the info about the gearboxes was gotten from MAN's website. And most, if not all of the MAN buses delivered to the Asia Pacific area by MAN Germany within the past 2 years are either equipped with a Manual (usually a ZF S6.XX) or a ZF auto (eg, HK's NL263s, 273s, Brisbane's 18.310, NG313s, Perth's NG313). They recommend Voith for their Lion City, but for the MAN A69 chassis (ie 18.240, 280, 310 HOCL-NL), they give an option of either ZF 6HP504 or Voith 854.5.

Yup, manual is usually 6S1900 series (now is 1901).

Hmm i was told by one of the person here that the '.4', '.5's refers to the clutch housing. Dunno correct or not. Do remember that Voith also makes a gearbox with a suffix E, for example, Voith DIWA D863.3E, but i dunno what it stands for.
