This thread is on route suggestions, most (if not all) of which are never going to be implemented. So I suggest that we stop all these comments about space in interchanges and let the imagination run. Even if there is no space now, who knows about the future?

Svc 63 can be extended to terminate at Bt Merah Interchange instead of looping at Rumah Tinggi via Jln Bt Merah and Bt Merah Ctrl after the existing route.

Also, can consider merging 98/98M and 333 to form a newly 98/98M which plies Jurong East St 13, Jurong East Ctrl (Blk 134), Jurong Town Hall Rd, Toh Guan Rd (IMM), Jurong East Ave 1 (Parts of the existing routes) and Jurong East St 32 (Both directions - For directions towards Jurong Pier Rd and Corporation Rd can add bus stops) and continuue to the existing route.

The advantage shall be those ppl in Jurong West St 51, Taman Jurong/Lakeside MRT will have a direct link to IMM while those living in JE/JW Ave 1 will have another alternative besides 502 to IMM. But it will not ply Jurong East Ctrl (The area near the mosque), Boon Lay Way (Behind JE Int) and the bus stop outside Blk 347 in Jurong East Ave 1 so I wonder how will it be affected.

A merger of the existing 153 and 157 to ply from Hougang to Boon Lay. 153's part from Hougang to Bukit Timah is retained while 157 part from Bukit Timah to Boon Lay is retained. In addition, Lor 6 and Lor 4 Toa Payoh to Boon Lay links are still retained from this amendment.

Benefits of the new 157

1. SBS Transit can save some buses to be deployed on other services. I estimate that based on its frequency on 157, 25 buses (18 dds and 7 sds) are needed to be deployed on this new service while currently, at least 28 to 30 buses are needed to deploy both 153 and 157.

2. It provides new links from Hougang, Kovan, Bukit Timah, Toa Payoh, Bukit Batok, Boon Lay.

Disadvantages

1. The whole journey is around 34 stages which is 5 more stages more than the current 157 and 11 more stages than the current 153. Bus drivers will have to drive longer.

2. Some existing links will be broken.

Then be prepared for tons of complains. 153 is one service which you should never cut, every sector of 153 is generally well utilised except for the few stops before the interchanges.

It will be better if this service can go into Woodlands estate such as Marsling Lane. Then again, it will incur additional fare stages.

This service duplicates with 187 from stage 19.5 to stage 36.5. After that, it runs parallel with 188 from stage 12.5 to stage 23.5.

However, this service provide a direct link from Woodlands to Dover Rd and Clementi MRT which currently only 963 serves from Woodlands to ITE Dover.

Plus, it improves links at Depot Rd.

But to get to Bukit Merah from Woodlands, I will rather take 961 than 953 due to fewer fare stages.

For demand wise, that will depend on the commuters to decide.

153 is a service that in my opinion, is good in terms of "directness" from Hougang to Queensway by looking at its fare stages as an indication.

For the 153's part, the portion between Queensway to Bukit Merah is cut. The reason is that there are quite a number of alternative services available to reach it from 153's rest of the routes although they are not foolproof.

There is 132 from Upp S'goon Rd (Hougang) to Bukit Merah no doubt 153 is still the fastest.

There is 147 from Upp S'goon Rd (S'goon) to Jln Bukit Merah and Queensway (Queensway Shopping Ctr).

There is 51 from Upp S'goon Rd (Hougang) to Queensway no doubt 153 is stil the fastest.

There is 93 along Braddell Rd to Farrer Rd and Queensway.

There is 48 from Bt Timah Rd to Farrer Rd.

There is 105 from Toa Payoh to Queensway.

The stretch along Lor 6 Toa Payoh and Lor 4 Toa Payoh and along Upp S'goon Rd (Kovan) will suffer the loss of link to Farrer Rd and Queensway.

Just my 2 cents worth of thought.

The service would then make its return journey after Raffles Blvd.

Unlike 960, 967 would serve the Upper Thomson corridor, where there is no direct bus link to Woodlands. It will also serve the Balestier area and Lavender St, then go through the Crawford Underpass towards Marina Centre. This service can also be extended to the future Integrated Resort when it is fully developed.

967: Woodlands to Marina Centre (Loop)

The service would then make its return journey after Raffles Blvd.

Regarding about 967, the total number of fare stages is around 56 (about 28 for each direction) since it is a looping service.

The service is pretty direct in terms of the way it goes from Woodlands to Marina Centre via SLE, Republic Blvd.

Advantages of 967

1. Provides links between eastern side of Woodlands Ave 1 - currently served by 901 only, Upper Thomson, Thomson, Balestier - no direct service to Woodlands and Marina Centre, Lavender and Marina Centre.

2. Making use of SLE, Republic Blvd ensures fast and smooth travel from Woodlands to Marina Centre. Around 9 - 10 stages are used in express sectors.

Disadvantages of 967

1. 967 doesn't pass by any more MRT lines other than Woodlands MRT at the beginning of the journey. This means that people will not use 967 as a service for transfer to the MRT. Less demand perhaps?

2. New service means more buses have to be deployed? Higher costs for the operators?

Just a note: The northern part of Upper Thomson has 169 to Woodlands. Neverthless, your 967 is faster than the current 169.

it is very hard for buses to go straight from ave 4 to st 41.

left lane is to go straight/turn left.
middle lane is to go straight/turn right.
right lane is to turn right.

this junction is mostly full of vehicles either turning right or left. very few go straight and most often, the middle and left lane block motorists from going straight.

accidents have happened when S168 DD turns left, S21 DD turns right on middle lane and a motorcyclist manages to squeeze and go str8. but when he enters a junction, a car tries to outrun the 168 bus and make its right turn from st 41 to library. BANG!

this junction is conveniently a bird's eye view from my house. once i was waiting at this junction and a motorcyclist hit a car and the motorcyclist fly upwards just 10 metres infront of me. even i as a driver, use st 21, st 24, left turn ave 7 keep right, st 42 to avoid this seemingly dangerous way of going straight.

I oso met with an accident (as in I'm on a bus when there's a bus driver)when I was going for my sports day

It happened like this

the bus captain actually see "No one",so the bus move(The bus needs two lanes to turn left)

Then suddenly the Mazda move so fast then Mazda driver wanted to squeeze the hole so that the Mazda can move. then the bus move then "Bang" the left back door of the car.The car driver still wanted ransom from the bus captain.

The part from Bt Timah road onwards seem to duplicate 48 a lot leh, especially since 48 is going to be extended to Kent Ridge soon.
