( K designates the way Scania fit or prop up the engine, be it transverse, horizontal or longitudinal - in this case for "K" i dunno what it means, must be Swedish word approx 9 litre engine / 5th generation Scania , 4 wheels , arranged in two tracks .

u may have seen k230Ub4X2. also can. 230 stands for horsepower of the engine.

this bus with special rego plate maybe got something special fitted on so the special rego makes the bus stand out (this just my guess may not be true)

Read somewhere that from the 5th gen onwards, they will not be using this numbering system but will switch to using the horsepower. Hence K230UB instead of K95UB. But in general, the chassis is designated as a KUB chassis, with the engine horsepower rating allowed to vary.

HG are replacing MK-II with MK-IIIs. Saw them being redeployed on 325, 113 and 112. We never saw a MK-III perm before the first MK-II deregistered.

All I have to say is WTF and OMG and WTH! SBS8888D is registered to a Scania K230UB! We are going to name this bus 'Mr Lucky' or 'The Swedish Luck'.

And maybe also the WA MBO405s that are due for scrapping soon... really going to miss those AMDEP buses they rock. Crying or Very sad

Maybe next time we'd see Scanias on 53, 54, 55, 56, 58, 59 and 410. Think these Bishan bus services used around (or close to, not really able to estimate) 30 ~ 40 of those WA MBO405s.

I don't think there would be a ComfortDelgro Engineering designed Scania K230UB in this batch. As it could be seen in the Scania press release, all would have Gemilang bodywork, and based on past trends, bodies from other coach builders would most probably be imported as ckd, and then assembled at CDGE's BA/HG. Meaning that most likely, majority of the buses are going to be bodied by ComfortDelgro themseleves.

But is there enough Mk3s and 4s to replace all the Mk2s in hgdep, bndep and bbdep? Or Merc in slbp to replace the Mk2s there? There would be a case of bus shortage if bad planning of deployment occurs, especially when Scanias and Mercs are also going off soon. I strongly believe that the Scanias on 66 and the transfer of buses from amdep to bndep and also JB Mk3s on 96 are temporary measures to curb the bus shortage in bndep and bbdep until bndep and bbdep get their share of the K230UBs.

Actually, theres some rumors that there will be some special "fronts" for the whole batch of 500 buses. Specifically, there might be a special one with a RapidKL styled front for the bodywork... dont know if thats true

I doubt that all would go to CDGE, some may be subcontracted out to hasten the job.

Hard to say...The ones for Rapid KL is by Deftech, although if they want they might just kope from Deftech for their buses. Seriously 500 buses witht the same bodywork is boring, luckily Mercs we have NAC/CAC and OAC for DM.

thot those got the 2 year lifespan ext? bcos if they aren't then why those WA Merz got refurbished second time, with new flooring and all? hope they really got ext.

sidetrack a bit- those Merz IMO are in gd condition, so (hopefully) won't get scrap but sell off instead
