The Sony ECM-DS70P is a portable 'T' shaped electret condenser
microphone that has a conventional microphone plug. If your MP3
player has a MIC IN plug, you can use this (or any other)
microphone.
The great thing about the ECM-DS70P is how sensitive it is - you
can pick up sounds of people whispering at the front of the bus
while you're sitting at the back of the bus recording. This,
unfortunately, means that you'll need a quiet bus for a good
recording (in terms of passenger numbers). This microphone is also
very sensitive to wind, so you need to make sure that you're not in
a drafty position when you're recording, otherwise you will get
"flutter". The great thing about the sensitivity, though, is that
you can pick up powertrain and drivetrain noises extremely
well.
