empty double deck on sbst7 along Somerset

I am surprised and delighted to board an empty double deck sbst7 along Somerset (towards Clementi) on Wednesday 2200h.

Is it a service that started half way from city hall? I don't think sbst 7 has such a low passenger load. Fortunately by the time the bus arrive at british council, it was almost full.

Demand for sbst7, 77 and 106 is always high.

When the bus arrived at wheellock, saw the bus arrival time for 106 and 77, which expected to arrive at 9 and 14 mins away respectively.

I would say smrt106 and 77 demands much higher frequencies especially on Christmas festive period.

How I wish SBST would come up a shopping route that terminate at Clementi, to complements smrt106,77 and sbst7.

Of course it is time ffor smrt to wake up as well.

yes sir. this is called downroute. driver drives halfway then start trip
usually occurs during peak or when got jam.

i have seen 14s and 7s do that. rather common now with the christmas season and all

I also believe it should be special downroute arrangements for festive season.

Technically, some other services do have downroutes.

Townlink 222 is one example. I didn't quite recall my reference to the timesheet well; I think it did a downroute somewhere before or after 'T2'.

I think I also saw a Service 69 bus doing downroute before (SBS 9314L). When I took the bus (after downroute), it was totally bare. Laughing

this is a fantastic service, sbst should brag about it.

do smrt has such service? each time board the smrt106 at holland ave, the bus always pack....,

and i do remember last year at this period, I had waited for full 30min for smrt106 (and fed up and walk to commonwealth ave to board sbst147) at holland ave to clementi...

how i wish smrt has such service.

I feel that svc 7 should be a fully DD bus svc. See the load during the peak hours on the mark IV DM and DM3500, it’s insane !

Shd not brag. the more off route running the more fuel is wasted. personally i dun like downroute. waste of fuel.

and when the bus goes by empty at bus stop I feel irritated.

Why waste of fuel? I would expect the sbst 7 to start from marina terminal rather then traveling empty from bedok to city hall....

it makes no economical sense to just simply skipped all busstops from bedok to cityhall. the bus probably started from nearby terminals.

A bit not logical for a downroute to start from somewhere that is not even part of the route in the first part. Even so, Marina Centre Terminal doesnt allow boarding Laughing

There are 2 types of downroute - scheduled and off-schedule. The only scheduled orchard downroutes you see are S36 at like 0530-0650hrs daily. As well as S14A buses that loop at Paterson Rd to start trip from Lucky Plaza back to Bedok. The rest are off-schedule downroutes.

TWS: The S222 downroute before AND after T2 is the Bedok MRT bus stop.
