Ez-Link Card

Hi!

I have some queries regarding a weird error I received on the bus.

When I tapped my ez-link card at the entrance, it made two beeping sounds (one low, one higher), then on the display panel it wrote

"VALID CARD
-----------------
Pay Cash"

Or something like that, and flashed the green light.

Does anyone know what that means? Because it makes no sense for me to pay cash when I have a valid card (with sufficient amount of money in it).

I'm using a student concession card by the way.

At the exit reader, it said that I need to tap at the entrance, but yah, didn't care - using student card Razz .

Two beep is concession I think.

One beep is pay by cash in the card I think.

I don't use concession pass (just my normal student ez-link card) - which means I need to top-up at the MRT Station Razz .

But it's the error that is weird...how can the reader tell me to pay cash when I have a valid card? And then at the exit reader it said I never tap..?

And it beeped twice, not once.

By the way, the bus driver didn't care also Laughing .

cos when the thingy "Valid - Pay Cash" comes, meaning your bus concession expires. And you're letting the BC know that you're using a valid card, so that he could charge you by student fare.

Ah yes, so my student card expired?

Wah sian, have to go get new one ah...I have not graduated from my secondary school, shouldn't my card only expire after sec 4?

Wrong, two beeps means your card is low on value. If it had expired, you could still use it for half a year as an adult card.

I think the you guyz are getting confused. 2 beeps, (1 high 1 low pitch) is the sound of concession card. Concession card is Student EZ-Link card, senior citizens and schools like NTU and NS Men. The 2 beeps u heard is normal, but i don’t know about the pay cash thing.

i think the machine that we tap shd display our fare for each trip.

then we will know exactly how much we are charged, and whether the amount is deducted wrongly...

besides displaying the balance in our card.

Nah. The two beeps I heard is the first one low, second one *super* high (as in higher than the normal adult fare one).

Anyway I shall see how it goes tomorrow Laughing , maybe prepare to get my card confiscated.

Your 2 beeps izzit quite close together...By the way, the concession sound IS indeed the first beep is low pitch, and second beep is higher. U are secondary what now?

You posted while I was editing my post Razz , so anyway...

First one low, second one super high (higher than the normal adult fare one, not sure about concession since I never pay attention to whatever people tap Razz , but I've never heard anything as high as what I've heard today..so can presume it is higher than concession).

And they're probably 1 second apart.

I'm sec 3, so it doesn't make sense right?

Its because your card is low on value, but unlike adult card, which will have 5 beeps, student cards will have 2 beeps to indicate to the driver that you are elligible for cash payment of 55c.

Scania, but the last few times when my card is low on value, it beeped like the adult one..did they change it recently? :think:.

Anyway I'll go to the MRT Station to check how much money I have tomorrow then (although I think I just topped it up recently).

I think all of you need to understand one thing.

The ezlink system is now about to check a student's ezlink card for its validity. The driver will set the reader to read your card. Messages like "Valid Pay Cash" etc will be shown. and of course the student pays the appropriate fare. If the card expires, you may need to surrender your ezlink card to the driver.

Henceforth that message only appears if the driver adjusts the ezlink reader to check the card and not to record the entry of the card on the bus.

If red light and the bus driver scream at you, den you pay cash, if green light and no screen, no need pay.
