Alamak. Mad I noe lah. Cuz sometimes i can hear a "wheeee" sound when the engine runs at high rpm. Anyone noes what causes that sound?

I also think like that leh. Dunno who say SMRT O.405s have OM447hA , dunno correct or not. Den another guy say SMRT's O.405s have NA(Normally aspirated) engines. Confused

We cant be too sure isn't it? Haha..the SBST'S Merc O405s has such a kick in the butt feeling during acceleration when compared to a B10M..a B10M is like a pig..Turbocharged engine produces a lot of torque at a low rpm..this is what causes the kick in the butt experience during acceleration when compared to a normally aspirated engine..if the SBST's O405 has normally aspirated engines, then it won't have that kick in the butt experience, wouldn't it? Lolx.. Mr. Green

Blame it on the speed limiter and poor maintenace,B10Ms aren't really good for city uses,It's more suitable for intercity/expressway services

Wonder why SBST bought them in huge numbers.. Confused You are right, the B10M and B10B ( not in SBST tho) are more suitable for intercity/expressway svc. I took a B10B in Thailand and wow ! It can speed! Unlike SBST B10Ms, which feels like pig, especially the MKIIIs (sorry! No offence for likers of MKIIIs)

Btw, will the speed limiter affect the bus' acceleration/pick up speed?

Lets make it easier. Gearboxes do NOT change an engine sound. SBST uses Mk I chassis while SMRT uses Mk II Chassis. Durr!

Eh usually you don't hear the engine sound, you hear the gearbox sound.

In that case, how can we actually tell a ZF from a Voith? Try 876R/877M and then take a normal MKIII then tell me again!

They say b10m is very stable because the engine is located in the middle. The weight of the engine is distributed equally between the two axels. B10B is based on the B10M but better and stronger. Speed limiter may affect the bus accleration if i'm not wrong. Usually the manual ones are faster

Yup..absolutely true..the engine is placed between the two axles in the middle of the bus..plus it is placed horizontally like porsche's flat-six engine..hence, there's this hump in the middle of the bus that u can see inside..it makes the bus super stable..very low centre of gravity as compared to Merc O405..haha..

But I don't think a speed limiter will affect the acceleration of the bus. The bus just accelerates as per normal..but once it reaches close to 60km/h, the speed limiter will start to cut in and maintain the speed by limiting the revs of the engine and stop the gearbox from changing up.. Wink
