It went to service 960 after service 960 was introduced in July 1996. After which it became a perm on service 176 for several years. It was then transferred to serve service 172 when bendies were introduced to service 172 in 2003.

Bendies on 855 will only make sense during the morning and evening peak hours. As you can see, 855 is not even at seating capacity during morning off peaks. You are right, they will not make sense on weekends. However, I have noticed many northbound trips late at night to be very crowded.

There were only 3 or 4 pax on the whole bendy.... I was the only one sitting on the right side of the bus. Because it was morning, the sun was shining in from the right side of the bus during any northbound trip. The other 2 or 3 pax were "hiding" in the cooler shade of the left side Razz You can see in the pics that the sun was always drenching my side (i.e. right side) Cool

Yes, it's located at the back, but I'm not sure what it really is for. Part of a modified air-conditioner, maybe, but it doesn't seem like a complete replacement for the air-conditioning itself, or else the original air-conditioning pods in the front could have been removed.

I have seen it (but never took it) running on routes 39, 2 and 354 before, and I wonder where will it go after being transferred to AMDEP...

The OAC Scanias I think have undercarriage A/C... That's why the original A/C on the roof is much smaller. Maybe it's just to house the filter? Confused
Also, when you compare with CAC/NAC Scanias, you'll see one extra grille on the driver's side of the bus. I think the A/C compressor is located there.

The underlined part is the Air Intake valve for the Air Con. Not the compressor... the compresser is above in the little pod.
