Some types of public buses introduced in the 70's and 80's do
have a similar configuration. The door is either in front of or
immediately behind the front axle, and the exit door is behind the
rear axle. I think I once saw a Hino RK176 with this type of
configuration many many years ago, and from what I have read,
several other types of buses have this configuration too, some
resulting from then-SBS' program to convert some buses (and some
bus routes) to one-man-operation; the Mercedes 811D minibuses also
had a similar configuration, as were at least one early SBS
demonstrator bus, an Isuzu.
Currently, though, all single-deck standard-length buses owned by
SBS Transit and SMRT are front-centre door configuration; only
private buses have this front-rear door configuration.
