i'm not really a bus fan, neither am i good at buses... but lately i've been wondering...
there used to be a volvo bus that is er.. longer than usual? with the carrier-man-can aircon advertisement... i last saw it on service 62 years ago... anyone knows wat happened to it? is it still in service?

i think sbs should have invested in bendys i find them safer and easier for commuters...

I think SBS finds it impractical to maintain just 2 bendys. You need special technicians, special drivers and special parts for it. 998Y and 999U were bought for trial and it was fun when it lasted. SBS has decided not to use bendys, else we would have seen more already, and those 2 were only running around until a buyer comes along or until they broke down beyond repair. Fortunately, someone was interested in acquiring them and so off they went.

Even SMRT SLs also told me those 2 were too long for sg roads. 19m as compared to SMRT’s 17.5m bendies.

SBST sold 998Y and 999U, formerly sv.18, to N.Z coz its expensive to maintain and require sepcial technicians, spare parts that are broken are oso costly and since SBST doesnt have many bendies, its best tt its sold away, whereas 997A still serve HGN62, about cameoing, i have never seen 997A being used as cameo

Does SBS 997A require special driver or parts?

Of course. The handling for a 14.4m bus is different from a 12m bus. The BC must be certified to drive this bus. Although 997A shared common parts with a regular B10M, it still need some special parts because it has a third axle and a longer wheelbase.
