you want to know why? because quite a number of Singaporean senior citizens are impolite. when you give up YOUR seat to them, they don't even have the courte...

This kinda thing hor is really up to the individual. If u wanna be generous and kind, give up the seat. students should give up their seats more readily than adults generally. they are in school, and thier school, teachers etc should had taught them about giving up their seats.

adults dont really give them up because maybe they had acquired the resistance to give up seats.

also, youngsters are the future of singapore. they should also led by example, and they are also educated. lastly, they pay real cheap fairs and doesnt contribute to the economy currently, so giving up their seats is like compromising and compensating Razz

Nothing to do with money, age or whatever. Its just if u are polite enough to give ur seat to elderly, if u dont, you jolly well do NOT expect other people to give u a seat when u are in ur 60’s and 70’s. Coz u didnt give others one when u are young and abled body.

Agree. I see some schools student glued to the GREEN seats somemore. Somemore from BETTER schools than me (don't guess which school I am from Laughing ). Most easily seen on a service which turn and turn and turn in the Tampines area before reaching the int. They always think that there is ghost at the back of the bus and there is gold near the exit door too.

Its sad that humans in general are selfish, but its also how many survived because of selfishness. Confusing...

Every people have different mindset and views. I have seen many examples of what you described, but I have also seen some rare cases of courtesy and kindness.

But I not giving up courtesy and compassion towards people just because they are not.

i didnt know the green seats were for the elderly...but what about those sbs bus where the seats are black with some colored stripes on them. there arent any seats that are supposedly for the elderly are there?
and another thing. actually things are not as they look like. even though we often see students or adults sitting while there are old folks standing, it doesnt mean that the former is selfish or inconsiderate. ive encountered many situations where i did give up my seat to the old folk standing but he/she refused and told me to sit down while they choose to continue standing. ive seen quite a number of old folks rejecting seats from others who offer as well. so what the public see is the old folks standing while the young is sitting but how many know the actual story? see, we're always jumping to conclusions. so whenever i encounter such awkwardness where i know there must be people commenting on how selfish i am, not giving up my seat, when i had and was rejected, i just tell myself that at least the person up there knows what is going on and so i shouldnt worry to much since i know that is what is should do. the feeling's not good though.

I still think regardless of wether you pay full fare or just selfish, its kind of logical you have to give up your seat. Rolling Eyes

1) The elderly is your senior, and they have led Singapore through some ways to get here today.
2) They are old, and do not have the physical strength like us to hold on while a bc is turning the bus here and there. They might get injured, seriously.
3) Some mentioned that when you yourself get old, no one will offer you seats. This will be because Singaporeans would have carved out such a thinking, by our generation for the future generation.

Its how u study, coming or studying from a premier school does not neccesarily mean u are better then him.

You might be good at something, but he might be good at something that you are weak at.

Who would you take as a friend? A guy from some well-respected school but doesn't give up his seat to older people? Or some ordinary guy with a heart of gold but never fails to make sure that elderlys get their seats?
