they are called "quasi-government" companies.

the government has large stakes in the companies, and influence the way the industry and operaters operates.

similarly, "private" enquities like polytechnics are also quasi-government companies

I am a little bit confused about that. So, does it mean that the SBST is a private company?

In addition, I just feel strange that why these svc such as 2, 67, 147 have quite a substantial amount of duplication with the MRT lines and yet their demand is still not bad?

SBS is private company, but government has a large stake in it. same goes for tertiary institutions etc.

Trans Island previously was a private company, but sold to SMRT/ Government for $80 million Mr. Green

i cant really comment on sv2 and 67..

for sv147, its helpful to note that the MRT does not serve Bendemeer Rd, Jln Besar, Bencoolen Street etc.
Even along Serangoon Road, NEL is still quite a distance from Serangoon Road..

Also, my opinion why 147 remains as it is is due to the above reasons, and probably the MP or some politician "appealed" like mad.. probably to gain votes? and for SBS to have more reasons to calm down the public outcry..

at least people still have "one" service to town

i wonder.. if SBS is a private company, and one day it gets tired of the public whining, and MOT, LTA, PTC continuous demands, then it decides to call it quits,

then half of singapore has no more bus transport and let the authorities settle this mess Mr. Green

likewise, S2/67 serves geylang rd which the MRT doesnt.

i rather take S67 frm tampines int to geylang serai den to take the train. i believe many others(general public) share my sentiments.

For me, currently I will rather take buses from a place to another place because I have bought bus stamp. Laughing

What about the return trip since the bus stop is at Sims Ave which is probably nearer to the MRT stations along Geylang? Will you choose time vs walking distance for a journey from Geylang Serai to Tampines?

So, just to ask, is SBST a private company since you use "if" for the most recent thread?
