Crane operator died after bus hits work
platform
This is third SBS bus-related
fatal accidents in past month
A crane operator was killed when a double-decker SBS bus crashed
into the aerial work platform he was standing on.
The victim has been identified as 57-year-old Tan Ngai Tiam.
The accident happened at 9.45 am today at the junction of Jurong
Port Road and Ayer Rajah Expressway beneath Corporation
Flyover.
Police said the crane was stationary on the road shoulder with its
aerial work platform extended.
Mr Tan was on the platform, painting the flyover.
The top deck of a bus on route 154 hit the work platform.
The impact threw Mr Tan out of the platform and onto the
road.
He died on the spot.
The bus driver and his four passengers were not hurt.
Responding to queries from 938LIVE, SBS Transit says the bus driver
is about 30 years old.
He's been with the company for 2 years and had a good driving
record.
This is the third reported fatal accident involving SBS buses in
the past four weeks.
Last month, a motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a bus
beneath Loyang Flyover.
Four days after that, a pedestrian was run over by another bus near
the Buona Vista MRT station.
