How many services are a normal BC trained in ah?

Since 179 running on special timetable now, 10 BCs have become standby...

I have seen them on 30, 98, 157, 174, 192/194, 193, 199, 242, 243, 252, 255...

Those 242 & 255 are not x-overs... They are really doing the 255 or 242 duties...

If normal BC are already trained in so many services, what about standy BCs? Even more?

And can they remember all the service fare stages? When the passenger asks for fare, he will have to mentally calculate the fare stage... Shocked Long distance route like 30 ah... Shocked

The BCs are rostered for their routes days before driving them, so they have time to familiarize them.

Standby BCs for that particular day are usually given routes that they are already trained in. In the event that they have to do routes that they don't know (which is quite rare), they'll learn their routes for 1-2 trips before doing them. Other scenarios include pulling out BCs of another route to do it & getting the standby BCs to replace them, or there is no bus for that slot.

There are a few BCs I know that are familiar with all the routes of both SLBP & BBDEP services.

some services short enough, like 194, no need guides for drivers. others, like feeders, ask the driver go to the information board follow the map enough for most drivers alrd…

The service you mentions are easily remember as they have flat fare..

What you mean by doing 1 -2 trips first? If they are rostered for AM or split shift, then they have no time to try the route first? Confused

Rostered BCs have days to learn the route in advance. Its those BCs on standby...they only know of their routes 5-10mins before. So if they don't know the route, they will follow another BC to learn the route...meaning there will be no bus for that slot during that period.

For example:
Sv183 shift 3A has 8 trips on the timesheet. The replacement BC will learn the route by taking the 4A bus while leaving his own bus parked at the int. He will then drive the remaining 6 trips on his own (and pray that he doesn't go the wrong way).

There are 2 types of standby BCs.
1) BCs with no fixed route. They can be rostered to do any service.
2) BCs that are not rostered. They will wait at the int/depot to replace any BCs that fail to turn up.

So some BC driving 242 and 179 in the morning and evening. They are also standby BC?

Those 3 242 buses I see have perm 242 BCs... The balding guy, the white hair and another younger chinese guy. They always rotate around these 3 buses...

3820G of 242 had a 179 standby P-shift BC though and he did it for 2 days.

actually, standby BC, unless new to the job, shld be quite familiar wif the routes oreadi…normally they had to noe the routes of their INT or even more will be the DEP…somehow from some place i noe that standby BC had some rare cases of helping other depot services(but under same district) coz after they r either from WEST or EAST…
