FOr one, the O405 has a horizontal underfloor engine. THe radiator grill of the bus in question doesn't look like that of an O405.

Also, the signature cap? (that thing in the centre of the front axle) can't be seen clearly. The OH series ones are hexagonal with the Merc symbol, while those of the O405 are plain round.

It is definitely not an O405. Its VIN indicates that it is a Brazilian chassis. Also, the rear seats are placed higher, which means that the engine is mounted vertically. As for the front wheel, the centre is a polygon with the Mercedes star.

The bus likes to make 1 detour bef getting to Larkin, getting to Western JB 1st. Does it go to Ulu Choh or near by?

Anyway, dun think it would be that popular as of the fares

does anyone knows how much the bus fares would cost? l remember that when the 2nd link first opened in 1998, the fare from Tuas to Taman Perling (M’sia) was S$4.50 on the defunct Maju 262.

It never go to Ulu Choh, the nearest point to Ulu Choh is Gelang Patah. The svc is not really mean for S'poreans heading to JB, for me, I might as well take 160 from Jurong East since it goes to JB straight, nevertheless the massive human jam at JB checkpoint. The svc is more useful to the M'sians working/schooling in the Western side of Sg and stay in the Western side of JB, as well as S'poreans who are heading to the Western JB area.

To the best of my knowledge, there's no O 405 in HI's present fleet.

But what their using is newer generation than O 405, also with 3-step low-floor city-bus design with air-suspension & charged-cooled single-exhaust pipe engine. Suspension ride comfort perhaps slightly improved above O 405 standards, which i'll regard as currently among the best in Singapore.

I think I've found the model for our Mercedes bus. It is either a CBC 1725 or an IBC 1632. I think it is the 1725 (17 000 kg GVW, 250 hp. Just nice!) I mean, the 1632 (320 hp) is a tad too powerful for a citybus, although it would be very nice indeed! Whichever model it really is, the specs are quite good. Check it out!

Do you think the engine is also mounted transversely ?
Note the bodywork design whereby the floor is uniformly low & level almost all the way inside but only suddenly rising by 1 or 2 steps @ the last 1 or 2 rows of seats.

The Saab-Scania N113 used in Singapore something like that & in their case, the engine's transverly mounted.

I've been informed that in more recent times, M-B bus-chassi tend to be produced in Portugal or Brazil with lower volume from Germany itself. So i won't be surprised if OC 500 series is also produced outside Germany !

The OM 457 engine series used on the Citaro does also exist in OM 457 LA form in transverse configuration when used on the Travego coach. But i strongly suspect in HI's buses, it's the OM 926 LA instead. What do you think ??

HI seems to have 3 different dashboard instrumentation panel designs on their fleet of new generation M-B bus-chassi although all use the 4-spoke steering-wheel more similar to Travego than Citaro. I note the engine used on those with the 2-dial dashboard design is different from the higher end version with the LCD lighted display in the middle between the 2 dials vaguely similar to Travego.

I doubt that it is transversely mounted. From the picture on the webpage that I linked, the belts are found facing the rear, which suggests a conventional driveline. If it is transversely mounted, then the belts will be facing the side.

According to the website, the CBC 1725 and IBC 1632 both use an OM 906LA II engine, the former having a capacity of 6374 cc producing 245 hp and the latter a capacity of 7200 cc producing 326 hp.

I haven't seen the dash upclose because I've never rode the bus. So, I can't make any comments either.

Upon your mention of the belt orientation, then it's not transverse.

I believe on their website, they mis-labeled the model on the tittle page & the correct model is shown when you click inside for more details. If the engine's are of different cc, the model # expected to be different.

I note both engines featured are of 4-valve head design i.e. both are 24 valve engines, which very much would account for the higher performance efficiency compared to the O 405, which only uses 2-valve head design. So that even though the O 405 uses 12-litre engine the output is similar to these much smaller cc engines of around half the size !

I believe highly possible, with M-B 6-speed manual gearbox.
Might also have some MAN with 6-speed manual gearbox.

Seems to me HI taken some design hints from the Hispano Habit here & applied them to their bodywork. I find the window waistline unnecessarily lower, resulting in the section of black glass, which like on the Habits, doesn't seem very 'purposeful' ?!?

But seeing CW2 buses parking behind SJE.. Majority of the going back crowd still prefer SJE for dunno whatever reason. CW2 too many buses parking at Terminal liao, up to 4!

1 reason i've seen is because some (presumably highly regular) travellers use the SJE pass, which i believe they buy a unlimited use monthly ticket instead of on every trip.
So i suppose unless they in great hurry they wait for SJE so as get the most use of the SJE pass !

HI should also have a similar scheme. Then there's need to fumble for required change everytime & show the pass & board !

They wanna serve here, they should abide by the contract they have agreed and signed
