last time, the aim of bus services to provide as many direct, point-to-point services so it'd be convenient for passengers getting to the most popular destinations like shenton way, orchard. even ulu villages like tuas, lim chu kang and choa chu kang had a direct service to shenton way.

duplication is common, and accepted as the norm.

when the MRT came about, duplication became taboo.

I think there are more feeder services which remained unchanged since its introduction as compared to trunk services. A few examples:

225 - since mid 1970s
228 - since 1979
231, 235, 238 - since early 1980s
273, 274 - since 1980
275 - since 1982
284 - since 1978
334 - since 1985

As for trunk services,

851 - slight amendment in Chinatown area but otherwise unchanged since 1985.
854 - since 1987

Let me tell you about the rundown on some services:

Sv 2 Changi Village to Buona Vista service before shortening to NBR Ter in 1993.
Sv 7 Bedok to JE Int service before shortening to Clementi.
Sv 130 Amended to serve Victoria St in 1993.
Sv 143 Amended subsequently in 2002.
Sv 145 Amended to Buona Vista Ter
Sv 171 Amended subsequently in 1993, 1994 & 1999.

PS: I compare the bus routes using the TL Guides at NLB, and also the Route History Collection by tranquilice.

Perhaps, you guys missed out on Sv 33.

No lah, Sv 10 does not serve Jurong East Int. Sv 10 was shortened to Clementi in Jul 1990, with the closure of Jurong Interchange.

Chai Chee - Kent Ridge... Only thing was that 33 was extended to Bedok

Sv 154 as well, only that it was amended to serve Clementi Town Ctr

Sv 74 was that terminating point was amended from Clementi to Buona Vista in 1993...

A number of things were missed.

33 - Not only was it just moved to Bedok, there was a time when 33 didn't ply Old Airport Rd. In 1986, there were 2 versions. One via Geylang Rd/Sims Avenue (original) and the other via Dunman Rd/Old Airport Rd. Eventually, the latter is retained.

74 - This one also evolved a number of times. First, it was extended to Upp Serangoon Terminal. Then it was amended to Buona Vista and finally moved to Hougang Central.

154 - Not only was it amended to ply Clementi Ave 6, it was also extended to Eunos Interchange from MacPherson.

Consider Sv 166. The route remains unchanged after it was amended. The only thing that it was shortened to Clementi Int, with the closure of Labrador Ter in the late 1980s.

Sv 74 the original rt between Clementi Rd and Ang Mo Kio have not changed for 3 decades

Same goes to Sv 154 bet Macpherson Est and Clementi Rd for 3 decades
