Looks longer than those here.. some more with 4 doors.. the last back door is meant for free entry? actually, doors wise, 3 doors currently, is sufficient,...

Seems besides the Chinese, the Germans too know about auspicious registration plates like 'MAXI 878' i'll say they're trying to say to the bus operator, driver & passengers that if you want to 'fatt' then you take this bus !

My speculations would be it depends on what type of engine is used.

If it's a diesel (most likely for now) then the 3rd axle maybe 4th axle as well.

I'm somewhat suspicious on the roof design i.e. why not flat roof is i think they also plan for fuel-cell engine so some parts put inside those protrusions on the roof ? in which case (for better traction on both carriages) they might make the 2nd & 3rd axles driven i.e. the fuel-cell electric motors 1 each on each axle.

most likely its the air-con so that it can achieve a total flat floor... remember it has an exit righttt at the back...

maybe If sg is to use it, wed have a higher rear floor.

In cold countries hardly they need air-con, unlike here.
If here then the protrusions on the roof for air-con if it's diesel driven i'll say.
But if fuel-cell driven then probably the roof would be a (higher height) flat roof again to accomodate both air-con & fuel-cell tanks etc.

If they manage to place all those 'extras' on the roof, then likely the low floor height would remain unchanged.

Citaros have protrusions on the roof as well. They have no A/C and they are diesel driven.

In that case, it could be those diesel with natural gas hybrid models.
Or, if only diesel model, could be the newest generation Euro-4 diesel with SCR using the Blue-Tec fuel additive technology.
If none of the above, then the protrusions on the roof should be the 'normal' less obvious type of protrusions for ventilation ?

it's not just a small protrusion like those you see on SBS MK4s or SMRT buses, but are very big rectangular things... Take a look here

I also note that the Citaros has its operating method of Four stroke direct injection pump line nozzle (PLD) with its engine type Euro 3 OM 906 hLA.

According to Mercedes-Benz website about the Citaros, the bodyshell concept is designed to comply with the provisions of ECE standard R 66 on roll-over strength. The Citaro also protects its passengers against side impacts with integrated crash protection in the sidewall skeleton.

From this photo, i'll say the white rectangular looks like emergency roof escape hatch with extractor fan while the red rectangular looks like air-con (for summer use although i'll think not quite necessary) or this model may not be the standard diesel version ?

But what has that to do with the roof ??

BTW, this OM 906 hLA also used on CW3 on the O 500 M/1725 CBC.
As the Citaro is meant to exist as a monocoque bus without a 'seperate' bus-chassi, so no surprise they make the bodywork probably much stronger since it has to take the load of the entire bus. A + point then would also be that this bus would offer better passive safety crash protection to those inside in event of a crash with another vehicle.

But i don't associate the protrusions on the roof as 'helping' to enhance the bodywork's rigidity or roll-over strength ?!?

It is the standard diesel version. Even the rigid Citaros have the protrusions as well. They definitely aren't A/C. The bus isn't A/C and also there should be vents on it if it was A/C. Confused

Talking about vents, i'll take that to refer to those rectangular glass windows seen as standard feature in certain sections of the windows usually only near the engine area. I've seen Citaro & O 405 G with M-B original bodies with such vents but these do not have those protrusions shown on that UK version Citaro G.

I notice though the Hispano bodies [which try to match the M-B original bodies] on the O 405's here do not have such vents eventhough air-con is used here.
