KL style hokkien mee

not the hokkien prawn mee (yellow colour one)

but it's the hokkien mee (black black colour one, black until all the ingredients oso look very black)

i know most tze char stalls have hokkien mee, but i am looking for KL style hokkien mee.
The tze char stalls in singapore mostly fry the hokkien mee to brownish colour only.

But KL style is almost black colour.
Those who have been to KL and tasted it will know what I am talking about.

Is that type of hokkien mee available in Singapore?
If there is, please tell me where can I get it? Thanks~~

That used to be available along Bukit Timah road (somewhere around the Nissan showrooms) but it has since closed down due to competition from Jing San Ling. It was about the most authentic KL Hokkien Mee (aka Fook Kien Chow) i have ever tasted in Singapore save that the chilli which they provided was not that great. They might have moved elsewhere though….

yes, like it alot as well, every time i go KL i’m sure to go try them at a Jln Kuchai Lama or something like that.

KL hokkien mee rocks..btw…sorry i cant help u with the location for good ones in singapore…but if you’re ever in PJ there’s this restaurant in Jalan 222 which IMO serves the bst hokkien mee ever..rest name is Ah Hwa…

i read today on magazine that our island cafe (at ck tang) has the KL style one..
but it's like u know $16 per plate! and doesnt have the fried "zhu you"

There is this Zhi Char stall along Jalan Besar which has it. Can't remember the name but I know Gong Li went there to eat before because I saw pictures of her and the owner together on the wall Laughing

Ask your M'sian/KL friends to cook it for you? A friend of mine did it for a gathering and it was really good...the pork lard really adds to the fragrance and flavour. Razz

oh yeah, the hokkien mee at Jln 222 rocks. Always head there for supper when i am in KL.

for some reason, its not easy to replicate. household stoves cannot generate the heat and our noodles don't seem thick enough.

i like the one around Jln SS15/4D Subang Jaya. Somewhere near the public bank is a hawker centre. And behindhawker centre is a blok of shophouses. After that you can see a chinese kopi tiam. (still sourcing for the full address)

the hokkien mee and hokkien bee hoon is superb. Esp the belanchan chilli.. and the lard... woww... a must have when ever eagle lands in USJ....

why eat KL hokkien mee when u can have penang fried prawn mee?

i prefer KL hokkien mee.

But penang fried mee is very nice too... not the fried prawn mee~~
but other mee.. like fu kien chow (fu jian chao), penang char kway teow, yee mee etc.

even penang has very good KL style hokkien mee, both in the butterworth side and penang side.
and many penang pple go there to have it.
