1701 was the first DM-bodied Mk II in the entire fleet. Altogether, 5 WA and 5 DM Mk IIs were retired on 9 June.

I'm wondering, what's the language of his communication ?!!??
Is the fellor inputing in some foreign language & using some auto language conversion software to try to convert his non-English to English ??

I believe coming across someone writing the input in Chinese & getting the computer to convert & output in (broken) English & the resulting sentences all sound nonsensical & beyond interpretation ! If the fellor doesn't understand English, i suppose he's not aware of what's going on ?!

I dislike MK2s man.. very cramped legsroom and the air nozzles blow out hot air despite fantastic acceleration. The sbs guys didn't do leg measurement ah? Bad ergonomics u know! Imagine sitting inside the bus during long journey... cannot tahan la! Haiz... I prefer NAC Scania CRBs!

I don't mind letting go of MK2s. I'd rather keep NAC Scanias. I prefer Volvo B57s to MK2s. The former are better!

Nothing great abt japanese TIBS buses la. Nissan diesel good performance but their suspensions sucks man. SMRT made a good choice by buying Dennis Lances. They are cheaper than MBO405s right?

MAN buses are also quite inexpensive. They have a plant in Malaysia, like UMW-Dennis.

LTA has replied regarding the extension.

SBST had "appealed to LTA for the use a batch of SBST buses that are exceeding 17 years as they need time to develop detail specifications and call tender to purchase a new batch of buses."

After careful consideration, LTA has "allowed the use of the batch of buses for another 2 years.", subject to them being "checked and certified by a Professional Engineer" that they are safe to be used for another 2 years, and also having passed a roadworthiness inspection conducted by any LTA authorised inspection centres.

The Scania came in 1990, which made it 17 years too late to become the pioneer single deck of SBS. The pioneer buses were way back in 1973, when SBS was created. All of the buses were transferred over from Singapore Traction Company and the Chinese bus companies. Most of them date from the 1960s and were far from roadworthy conditions. The most common models include, ALbion Viking VK/EVK41L/UL, MB LP1113, OF1413 and Nissan 4R94/RX102.

If you're talking about the first buses which were bought by SBS, then the honour went to Leyland with the Albion Viking EVK55CL/CUL (the CUL was the longer wheelbase version of the CL). This was the first large order of SBS with 255 buses delivered from 1975-1977. Following that was another big order from Leyland in the form of 144 Victories (known within SBS as the Guy Victory rather than Leyland Victory) delivered between 1975-1978.

the 195 Mk II's, if they're all staying. cos tis includes NAC, i dun think SBST may extend those NAC Mk II's.

tis is an arrangement exclusive to Mk II's. it does not affect the LTA policy of 17 years life span for omnibuses. tis also applies to the Scanias.

Did SBST give LTA reasons that they are introducing new services, thus they need LTA to extend the life span? or is it the other way round, whereby LTA require them to introduce new services, in order to extend the life span?

Dennis Lance the bus the design very funny the first part of the bus very low and and want to reach for the AC outlet it is so high and sometimes need to tip-top. For the second part it is so high and there is a step to go on top and down. But overall the bus is still not bad as I like the sound of the bus and sometimes can go very fast which depend on which BC driving the bus

adding on, it is now possible for SBST to be introducing even more services for this half of the year, given that all Mk II's have been cleared for 2-year extension to 2007/2008, though it'll be chaotic then with the retirement of 395 buses. maybe they can speed up CCL. Laughing

I'd rather the Scanias & Mercs retire together. But wouldn't it be even more chaotic since more vehicles are sent to their graves? By then, the opening of CCL and arrival of OC500s would have already mitigated the situation. Not to mention the B9TLs would have been serving for some time.
