A long time back (somewhere in the early 80s), MacPherson Estate
can only be accessed by Merpati Rd and the slip road to and from
Pan Island Expressway. Circuit Link has not been constructed and
the link between Paya Lebar Rd & Circuit Rd was a small lane by
the name of Lorong Bengkok, which is still existent today, except
it has been converted into a no-through road.
Buses which used to terminate and passed by the estate used the
green plate and the white plate. For buses that started its route
from the estate, green plates means that the buses are going "out"
(same as St Michael's services) and white plates means that the
buses are terminating ("in"). For services 135, 155, 158, different
plates means going towards different directions.
If you noticed the sgwiki bus guide for 1979-80 (http://www.sgwiki.com/Bus_Guides_1979-80), u would
have noticed that all the services that plied all entered via
Merpati Rd and exit via Mattar Rd.

svc 40 was amended from its previous route of Chai Chee - Prince
Edward to loop at MacPherson Estate, making it one of the 1st
services not to use the green/white plate system.
When Circuit Link was opened, svcs 60, 135 & 158 was amended to
ply the new stretch. Slowly, as bus services from the estate began
to be relocated (svcs 61, 62, 64, 65, 154) or withdrawn (svcs 60,
63), the green/white plate system still continued on. For those
buses which still uses the metal plates, the green/white colours
are still around and can be seen on 135 and 154. However, colours
are as per normal for buses using the new plastic side destos.
