If anyone of us read the Straits Times

UBS Investment Research analyst Cheong Kwok Wing said that SMRT would not gain much by taking over the NEL, as its trains are different from those used on the other lines, and need different operating and maintenance skill.

In the few year times, SMRT is also using driverless train. They also need to learn how to using it right. If they really take over NEL they don't need start from scratch.

Except Yishun trunk and feeders, of course. Tibs also tried to link SKG with the city but SBST getting the NEL tender put paid to their expansion plans in the northeast.

But also SBS is getting better and better as the year go by, unlike SMRT getting from bad to worse. Bad bus service to longer MRT frequency

Well, the sector swap put a strain on Tibs Holdings, but they still got by with capable guys like Ng Ser Miang and Tan Hup Foi at the helm. After the rebranding of last year with Iron Lady consolidating her hold, things got worse. The bus operations seem to be taking the parent company down with them.

I find it surprising that SMRT Buses H1 profit can plunge by 60%. Their Sv 67, 852, 961 are very popular

SMRT has fewer advertisements, which is true.. (see those few full-body ads on 2nd link, speak good english). it also has less ad-hoc and contract charters as compared to SBS. also, SBS is still in the green due to its high turnover rate, high number of advertisements (thanks to its Superbuses), and of cos, overseas (Shen Yang/ London) revenue (makes up more than 50% !!)..
if not for these, SBS sure will be facing red... also, i daresay SBS manage their assets like buses better, due to experience..

and yes.. dont forget.. SMRT is government owned, while Comfort Delgro isnt really..

Ha ha ! There are many confusion of the CCL and NEL, isn't it ?

What I know is that:

--CCL will be operated by SMRT
--CCL will be using the same train as the NEL one, and it is driverless
--CCL will be using 6 carriage train

If you read yesterday ST business section, another former TIBS member have resigned from his post. It seem that SMRT is not interested in bus service. Sacking a TIBS veteran show it. Maybe the iron lady think that keeping him is a surplus. SMRT bus is going to rot because of her. I have a feeling that some big changes is going to happen in the near future. Wink

Well, even though things might be what it was like in 1980s, (Only 1 company for bus and 1 for train), i think is good as we can expect much,much better service because the two companies are going to be focused on one area of transportation. I would be very happy if SBS really takes over SMRT Buses as it would mean much,much better service in the Northwest SIngapore just like in the pre merger era.
