The bus driver kept trying to reverse the bus , he doesnt know what the problem was . He stretched his head a few times then he realized he forgot to start the engine. He saw me looking , gave me a smile then reversed off.

I took this bus at 2030 hrs at parkway parade, the upper deck's lights were off. I am not sure whether anyone told him but when I boarded the bus , the driver was like trying to switch on and off the lights, anyway took it all the way to tampines in darkness. When the passengers alighted, then only the upper deck lights switched on. The passengers and myself were bemused ! We thought the lights were spoiled but it wasn't the case, the driver probably forgotten to switch on the upper deck lights. Gosh !

The engine must be switched off when the bus is parked...applies to all public transport & government vehicles. The driver can be fined if caught with the engine running...something about pollution control.

My police friend told me his colleague was fined for leaving the engine of his patrol car running while he's eating at the coffeeshop nearby. And a few NR drivers was also fined at the Marina Centre Terminal.

I noticed that bus captains leave the engine on so that the air cons can run. If not, the interior of the vehicle will be like an oven.

1) I think the driver is careless, did not notice the engine is not on. Actually it is very obvious, there will be sounds made by engine when it is on.

2) The lights may be faulty. (in red) I dont understand... how come it only works when it reach the interchange ? (in orange) How did you know the driver probably forgotten to switch on the upper deck lights ?

last time BC always leave the engines on, if parked for within 15 to 30 minutes.. not sure why now have to off it.. also, BC always leave the doors open.. why Question

and, at SMT, theres an out-dated notice saying engines have to be switched off before 7am and after 9pm, presumbly to reduce noise level around the terminal..

A lot of complaints from residents about smoke & noise pollution of the first buses...so you should know who to thank Wink . SBST now requires all BCs to remove their keys from the ignition if they're not on the bus...scared people steal (both keys & buses...happens before). Most buses, once the key is removed from the ignition with the engine off, the doors cannot close.

Its good to leave all doors open while the bus is resting at the interchanges/terminals. At least, any foul smell can escape. Let it ventilate! I took a ride on svc 67 (Habit Bus; rego forgotten) from Tampines Int last Sun. The interior was smelly and I heard someone sitting behind me complaining about the smell....

last time i see this actions at interchanges standalone berths especially: many
BC leaves front door open, then he alights. when he is halfway out, he press the emergency door button on top of the door inside to close the door which he was exiting.. stunt!

That's because old buses like the LO2Xs have their door close button on the inside & the Open button on the outside. Buses nowadays have 2 buttons (1 Open & 1 Close) on the outside.

yes...even the driver side buttons serve both functions.

Saw a blur Driver too,He tried to help an elderly alighting instead some ruthless guy shouted at him for being too kind and he was late for work!Darn isn't it hard to be a BC?No appreciation at all just Complains after Complains Crying or Very sad
