The purpose of forming SBS was to consolidate bus ops and provide integrated transit. 10 years later, a second bus company was formed to provide some competition. What a contradiction. Heck, just give Woodlands Transport the eastern sector. Perth is smaller that Singapore, yet they have 3 bus operators.

You go see KMB website... With compeition, end up, only the profitable rts esp the KMB 10X and 11X Cross Harbour rts have good frequency... Most have poor frequency as of low demand...

SBS was formed out of neccessity because the public transport system was a big mess. However, although the 3 bus companies merged on 1 July 1973, SBS remained inoperable. The companies that made up SBS showed no desire to merge their operations and continued to operate as seperate entities. The Government had to intervene to bring about true amalgamation which came about on 1 November 1973.

By right, overall management should come under TransitLink, with various sectors famred out to up to 3 operators, while the subways are leased to SMRT.
