I will like to ask why sometimes once the drivers activates the handbrake when it stops, they will just step hard on the gas pedal. Kind of unpleasant if this takes place on a noisy bus especially Duple MB0405s when seating at the rear, so noisy!!! Is it a fuel saving measure? Im really puzzled. Or its really nothing much?

The_Bus_Guide SG

The driver does that because the pressure in the air reservoir is low. By revving the engine, it will drive the air compresser to build up pressure in the reservoir. The air is supplied to many components of the bus such as the suspension, the doors and, most importantly, the brakes. Buses run on air brakes. Contrary to popular belief, in an air brake system, the air is used to release the brakes. If there isn’t enough pressure in the brake cylinder, the bus will be moving with its brakes applied causing serious wear to the brake drum. In some cases, the bus couldn’t move at all.

under newcomer's guide, there are links to discussions on withdrawn svcs.

The_Bus_Guide SG

You got it backwards. M1 became 92 while M2 became 42.

tranquilice SG

Which service is the shortest? 284 or 354?

tranquilice SG

Service 15 seems to be another replacement for service M4, for passengers of Marine Cres/Terrace to go to Jln Eunos (Eunos MRT) and back.

tranquilice SG

M1 and M2 (together with 16E) were re-numbered 92, 42 and 36 in December 1997.

Is the rear-axle of 997A free-turning?

SBS9828X SG

Why do buses or large vehicles have ‘double wheeles’at the back????

The_Bus_Guide SG

2 reasons.
1. To support the weight of the vehicle.
2. To increase traction.

SBS1908B SG

Forgot I asked this question some time ago. Embarassed
Anyway, tamago, I just wondering, but in the every weekday I see 997A, I have not really seen the rear-axle turning. Neither have I seen that of tridents, VSOs doing so.

SBS9828X SG

Because when u see them, they are not turning

Whoever has the deployment list for CLE & BMR feeders, please update the SgWiki accordingly.

There's also Svc 400 and JIS to update.

Thank you very much. Wink
