If you are a bus captain, which route would you AVOID?

I would avoid all feeder services. Cos you have to repeat the route for up to 10-20 times a day, hence it gets a little boring, and imagine doing that 365 d...

Which route would you pick instead (assuming you have a choice)?

I would avoid "driving" 170. Heavy passenger load, long queues especially on weekends, traffic jams near the immigration, long waits for passengers to board and alight.......and that's just driving TO Johor. Another round of the same problems heading back to Singapore on the return trip!!!!

And that's just ONE return trip. Imagine doing this many times a day, 5-6 days a week. (I am not sure how many hours/return trips a 170 captain makes in a day, or how many days he works in a week.)

Can't be easy driving that route. I imagine it to be stressful too.

Preference would be....161 (Woodlands-Hougang Central). Mostly new VSOs used, route includes scenic expressways, pretty nice interchanges on both ends, each journey not too long etc.

168 is another option for the same reasons ...except Bedok Interchange is not exactly in the best condition.

i would avoid JIS services, and the very long loop services like 16 (3h), 76 (2.5h), 89 (2+ h).

61 170 not nice as well. 61 too many turns and needs to navigate narrow roads (ie Tanglin Halt) in bendies, 170, traffic jams at JB and too little time given to it (must really try to get its timesheet one day).

as for services to drive :

88 (nice VOs / good int, 1.5h trips not too long)
81 (another one with a less hectic schedule)
80 (good buses, not too long)
29 (got a timesheet of it, quite relaxing schedule compared to other services)

I would nT choose Service 170.. 160 is the same also.. i would AVOID cross border service at all cost...
But if im given a choice, i would choose 161.. Expressway.. Most of the buses are New and all other factors.. 27 is also the same.. provided that im not given Mk3s... thats my choice..

I would avoid 14 & 51. These routes are long.

284 probably has the most relaxing schedule. Only 3 bus stops to call.

avoid any bus tat passes by eunos tat area during peak hours. the jam there is like hell sometimes Twisted Evil

Avoid service 162 night shift as the schedule is so packed, the drivers have to chiong like mad. I also agree wif the 33 joo chiat section, should be avoided.

Extremely narrow roads esp Joo Chiat Place.

For 284, it means that BC have to drive for 5 - 7 trips bef getting a rest

I would prefer to drive Sv 35, 60, 79, 82

well, if it's only three bus stops to serve, I don't really mind it at all.

On a side note, if Marine Parade services are such long routes, why don't they terminate somewhere? What is the purpose of Upper East Coast Bus Terminal?

errr, sometimes feeder services are not at all nice to drive.

Sv 238 BCs as well. Some trunk rts also (Drive for 50+ mins then get 5 mins break)

171 would be my choice!! Far too long and circuitous, and its route uses major roads (Upper Bukit Timah, Orchard Road etc) which always have jams especially during peak hours.

Just saw a svc 12 timesheet, driver does Pasir Ris - Chinatown and back during the morning peak (about 3h) and only has a break of 5min @ NBR! Exclamation

Honestly, I would avoid services like 851, 190, 16, Express 502, 950, 147 and 859

FOr one, these routes many not to long, are huge money generators for SBST and SMRT, however they are TOUGH to drive. 851 and 190 are always clogged with ppl or traffic, I can't stand the MKIII's on 16.... 859 is a dead bore

35 -- this route is fantastic, pity SBST withdrew the Volvo Olympians 2-Axle from it. Are Superbuses on this route already? Or still using Scanias?

Exclamation 804 and 806 can be very challanging, but very relaxing during off-peak hours
