Serving You Better, New Service 181

Starting Sunday, 9th Jan 2005, 10.30am, New Service 181 will be introduced to ply between Jurong West Neighbourhood 2 and Boon Lay Interchange.

With the new service, residents of Jurong West Neighbourhood 2 will enjoy (a) new link to Gek Poh Ville Neighbourhood Centre and an additional link to Boon Lay Interchange.

Service 181 will on trial for a period of 6 months.

From Boon Lay Interchange:
6am - 12 midnight daily

Not profitable in the sense that they don't earn much as all passengers pay 63 cents each. To get more money, trunk service is a money making service.

I was thinking if they introduce number like 244 or 24x.

True. Bus companies (esp. SBST) now are reluctant to introduce feeder services due to the flat fare.

nowadays we see more of those decent service numbers running on short feeder-like services within its own estate,

SBS 11 , 42, 68, 83, 84, 91, 95, 96, 101, 112, 113, 115, 179, 181, 191, 194,

SMRT, 177, 964, 981

Particularly dislike the numbering of the so-called feeder services 101, 112, 113, 115 plying Hougang estate, with feeder Svc 325 the odd one out, very weird, after NEL, bus services in hougang estate are in such a mess

Eh i think SBST did not re-number then as 32x feeder service as it will only lead to further confusion as the feeder routes now terminate at HGN CTRL intl or Sgoon for sv101. Feeder sv325 originated from HGN ctrl Int. The numbers 101 correspond to Sgoon Int for easy indentification with the interchange {100,ex SBST106,107} or HGN [111] although sv115 trial, sv119 are the odd ones out

I agree that SBST did not rename them as 32x because these will only lead to further confusion. But personally, I think that this is not because they terminate at HGN or SGN, but because they are no longer feeder services. I will say that 32x numbers are mainly used for feeders. And also, historically, 11x services passed through Hougang estate as can be seen from the ex-111 and the withdrawn 118.

They might not made it a feeder as if it is a feeder, it cannot end at 2400

Don't understand what you are saying. Are you saying that feeders must end after 2400hrs and cannot end before that? And btw, both 112 and 113 end after 2400hrs, think ard 2420-2430hrs, if I'm not wrong... must confirm later.

Yes, under the current framework... Feeder's last trip must be made after the last MRT except for Bt Merah as it has no MRT

For Sv 112 and 113, they end at 0020 and 0010, where the last train arrives HGN at 0020 and Kovan at 0017

For BNL, last trip should be after 0025. But since it is a trunk service, it can end at 2400

181 demand is pretty good, 3/4 of queue berth on a Saturday afternoon.

I realise the situation too. Especially during peak hours. How many buses on Svc 181? 2 or 3?

Feeders can end at 2400 hrs.

It is able to end AFTER 2400 hrs IF the demand is commercially viable

For 181, I dont think it would make a difference whether this service is a feeder or not, since it travels such a short distance and it makes a u-turn (i presume) at stage 4.5

for service 112, if one takes the bus from Kovan station, it seems that the bus fare will be no more than $0.63 to Hougang st 92. have a look at the number of bus stops that has fare stage 8.5, and there are 13 such stops. The same pattern exists for 113. From Kovan Station to Hougang St 11, it costs no more than $0.63 too.

They are no different from feeders, in terms of cost.

Like they said, Service 181 is a trial service. SBST will continue to monitor changes around the Jurong West area before either extending the route OR just withdraw it altogether.

Other trial services:

68 - No major problems. So it can stay.
84 - Being replaced by the LRT.
115 - Still on trial.
