Jap Buses

Sometimes.. i’m just wondering.. why doesnt SBST or SMRT buy Jap buses like Aero Star or something like that.. ? or their Midi Buses.. ?? i mean… they are also good to use in a sense that those low demand routes can use those Midi Buses… and not 12m full length.. Reason that they Europe Buses is it because they are cheaper or…... ???

Yes, there were 4 of them. SBS 8000Z, 8001X, 8002T, 8003R. They were bought in 1990 and used on M1. After some time, the buses were taken off the route and hired to Orchid Country Club for their free shuttle service. Nissan Civilians are sold as complete buses so yes, they are exactly the same as the TIBS ones. However, the TIBS buses were not registered with a TIB rego and were deployed on 827.

SBST had the Nissan Diesel U31SCN . regos are 0010 - 0029... and also the Nissan Diesel U21SXN (SBS2452S) ...SMRT have some Nissan Deisel buses (TIB125xx) and some others

To the bus company and their workshops, a bus is generic, and not die die must be fixed to a particular service. Midi buses will not be a good substitute when they have to cover for other services. Besides, even low demand routes have their peak hours.

Anyway.. since their fleet is majority of the same brand, operating multiple makes means more $$ tied up in spares inventory. Also.. workshop staff must then be trained to service diff makes.

Also.. I believe.. European City buses have standardised chassis and body configurations (Volvo and Merz can use same body) Jap buses are built as 1 piece?

maybe sbstransit and smrt wants to look high class .hence prefer european bus models to japanese bus models. Wink

But I do find that European city buses are more spacious that Jap models.

Therefore.. me no problem with European buses.

You forgot that the Hino HS buses use Volgren bodywork. The same bodywork is also used on Dennis and Mercedes buses.

That's right. Some models do come with an integral bodywork, such as the Hino HT and the Nissan SCN. But most others can be fitted with kits just like the European models. Not only the HS but also AK, RK, RM and many others. Same goes for many Nissan models.

All the UDs I know of come with Fuji Industries bodywork. As for where Hino Volgrens are based, check out KJDEP. BBT & CCK feeders are controlled from here. The 2 Volgren Lances are perm on 851.
