how to improve svc 151?

my neighbour attending nus always complain about 151. not frequent enough, too crowded, route it takes passes through too many schs…what suggestions do u have for this trunk service that serves many nus, poly, sec sch students?

151.. ?? More AIRCON buses.. better if there is VO3x serving that route.. note that almost the full fleet is using Mk2s.. hope that things would get better when the NEW CNG bus comes next year…

if no restriction along Kent Ridge Cres, i wouldnt mind svc 93 VO2X doing svc 151 instead.

151 fleet currently consists of about even spilt of CAC & NAC mk2s (?) and some Striders.

85% Mk2s, rest striders. of the mk2s, 80% NAC. only 3 AC Mk2s - 1756, 1819, 1844

Improving the service may be difficult….height restrictions mean DDs are out. Perhaps increasing the frequency is the only option. And serving so many schools, esp. NUS and Ngee Ann Poly means the service is destined to be perennially crowded, either heading towards NUS (morning peak) or leaving Kent Ridge (from noon onwards).

Because of the route of 151, the only thing to suggest now is to:

1) Improve Frequency
2) Dun care about other less important services and give 151 lots and lots of buses to 1)

Your suggestion 2 will not work... SBS cannot do cherry picking, they still have to operate unprofitable rts with same sv standards... You can do this in JB, later no one wants to serve a certain road, then who suffers??? We passengers

151 is not the only rt... In the late 1990's, there is a majority of PAC rts that use mostly NAC buses like 154, 155

sad to say, but 151 was once a FAC service... maybe because students are poor, so they convert to PAC.... Smile

This is because they have high concession pass usage... Sv 74, 154 used to be under such category...

Maybe its because there are not enough AirCon buses to go around bahx.. ?? IMO...

In 1998, there was a redistribution of air-conditioned buses to high-capacity routes serving the CBD. 151 and 156 gave up their air-conditioned vehicles.

Iveco - You are wrong... Most rts went FAC (Even 107, but later went PAC in the end)by 2000 except Sv 10 and 70.

138, 151, 156 & 158 went from FAC to PAC in 6/98. Some of the Mk IIIs disappeared and were replaced by NAC O405 DMs. During the same period, services 2, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 18, 22, 23, 24, 25, 27, 30, 51, 56, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 81, 98, 99, 100, 105, 106, 111, 124, 132, 133, 139, 143, 145, 147, 166, 190, 195 & 197 became FAC. NEL services like 82, 103 & 163 became FAC after Tibs handed them back to SBS. It was also during that year when I saw 1881 become CAC.

Hello, SBS svs by then had mostly went FAC for CBD svs... Tibs then still had a lot of NAC 0405. The other rts went PAC: 6, 19, 35, 90, 138, 151... But there are special cases in a sense of like Sv 107 (PAC - FAC - PAC), making the FAC status short lived. Svs are 37, 94, 155

35 has been NAC since its intro. It has been served mainly by VO2X since its inception.
