From Sunday, 29 August 04, the Vehicle Location System (VLS)
will be introduced on another two SMRT bus services 962 and 964.
This is in addition to four other SMRT buses - 173, 180, 184 and
189 that were installed with this feature earlier this month.
Passengers' feedback on the VLS, a satellite-based bus tracking
system that updates bus fare stages automatically, has been
positive. With VLS, Service Captains no longer update the fare
stages manually. Thus human error is eradicated and passengers are
assured of accurate fare deduction.
In preparation for this weekend roll out of bus services 962 and
964, our Service Captains have gone through a refresher briefing on
the operation of VLS. This is to ensure that they are prepared to
respond to any system errors and assist passengers with the system.
In the event of a system error, Service Captains will manually
update the fare stages and passengers can tap their ez-link Cards
as usual.
Posters will be put up at bus interchanges and decals will be
displayed at exit doors of buses to inform commuters about the
VLS.
