Statutory life and bus models

Hi Everyone,
I'm new here...but it's interesting to read so much abt what has been shared.

Anyway,
I would like to put this out for some input....

Does anyone know exactly when (Month/Year?) the statutory life of buses was extended from 12 to 15 years, and then to 17 years?

Also,
Anyone has a list of bus models and the fleet size of each model under SMRT buses and SBST? Very Happy

Buses can run up to 17 yrs. However, the current buses have to be replaced by 1 Jul 2006

Is that so? It would be quite a waste for the VSOs and the newer Habits to be phased out in 2006, they will be only about 3-4 years old then.

Ya, the Govt has made only Euro4 or CNG buses to run on the roads aft 1 July 2006. You didn't know? That was why the Transperth bus came, to get deals but you know that both will say it will lead to higher fares.

I dont think SBST or TIBS would be so stupid to scrap the VSOs or Habits when they're just a few years old?! At the very least they gradually upgrade their engines to meet the Euro4 criteria.

Sorry, only new buses can be accepted at this stage as there is no Euro4 engine yet. It will only be released next year....
If I'm not wrong, only new buses can be accepted or already CNG

I hope you are not confused between "BEING ON THE ROADS" and "REGISTERED IN SINGAPORE".

There is a FARKING big difference between "not allowed to be on the roads from 2006 onwards" and "being registered in Singapore from 2006 onwards".

They can say anything for now, but they are sure going to make it mandatory as bus co are not going to change even with the rebates by buying many bef the date... See how it goes

You think bus company have so much spare cash on hand to buy 3000+ buses at one shot just to comply with the ruling? And have you thought how long it will take to deliver the buses and get them on the roads? Obviously not, correct?

Moreover the ruling only applies to NEW BUSES REGISTERED AFTER 2006, and NOT all public buses running on SG roads then.

Who on earth is that in the 1st place?

They are in the process... CRB and Mk2 which stands at 450...

N113CRB and Mk 2 WERE MEANT to be replaced in any case. You think SBST can afford to replace the remainder 2000+ of its fleet to comply with the ruling within 1.5 years? You must be insane.

Very comprehensive listing of SBST and SMRT's fleet size and models, along with the registration nos. However, does anyone have any idea when (MM/YY) each model is registered?
