I went for a holiday to Bangkok and just got back a few hours
ago while I was typing this. It was a revelation indeed. I've never
expected Bangkok to have such a wonderful array of buses. At first
glance, you'd be forgiven for thinking there are a few bus
operators in the city. Although there are a number of liveries, the
public buses are all controlled by the Bangkok Mass Transit
Authority (BMTA). The BMTA, operating under the jurisdiction of the
Ministry of Transport & Communications, is charged for
providing bus services in Bangkok and the nearby provinces.
Different colour buses denote different type of service and charge
different fares. They are as follows:-
1. Regular bus (4 baht): Cream-Red
2. Regular bus (5 baht): White-Blue
3. Expressway bus (5.5 baht): Cream-Red
4. All-night bus (5 baht): Cream-Red; from 2300-0500 hrs
5. Aircon bus (8-16 baht; distance related): Cream-Blue
6. Bendy bus (10 baht): White
7. Euro-2 bus (10-20 baht; distance related): Yellow-Orange
8. Microbus (3.50 baht; plying main road): green
9. Microbus (3 baht; plying lanes): purple
The bus models for:-
1. Mitsubishi Fuso & Hino AK
2. Hino
3. Same as 1
4. Same as 1
5. MB O404 (I think), Hino AK, RK
6. So, Singapore is not the only ASEAN country with Bendies. I
never expect to see Bendies in Bangkok. Buses are MB O405G but I
there is another unknown model.
7. The cream of the crop. New, bright and clean. Looks like Hispano
buses and colour is like CSS. Several models viz:- Hino RU1J,
Daewoo BH115, MB O404 and Isuzu.
8 & 9. Reminds me of the old CSS minibus or KL's Bas Mini. Not
as pleasing as its bigger counterparts.
Don't ask me about routes. Destos are in Thai.
