Where is Bishan Street 31? Is it Sin Ming Avenue?

tranquilice SG

Service 213: I have the feeling that Tlk Paku Rd and Nicoll Dr mentioned are not where they are located today. I saw before a 1970s map which show the Nicoll Dr and Tanah Merah Besar Rd junction, before the reclamation took place off Changi.

Service 216: Island View Rd is present Kent Ridge Cres?

Yusry SG

Telok Paku used to be a T road linking to Nicoll Drive at 2 junctions. Only the 1st junction still exists today. The DRC is no longer there though. So 213 plied a part of Nicoll Drive that no longer exists today.

Yes, Island View Road is part of present day Kent Ridge Crescent, but not totally KRC.

^tamago^ SG

dunno. my earliest street directory gave no indication. perhaps a trip to JRL will help. meanwhile my guess would be tat it is at Bishan West area, off Sin Ming Ave.

tranquilice SG

I assume the 1st junction is with present Changi Village Rd, so which is the other junction?

As shown on the map below, the present stretch of Telok Paku Rd was un-named in the 1970s. I believe that the stretch of Telok Paku Rd shown on the map is present Aviation Dr and North Perimeter Rd.

http://sg.geocities.com/tranquilice/scan.jpg

tranquilice SG

I couldn't find Bishan St 31 and Sin Ming Lane in the 1988 street directory.

^tamago^ SG

i think we should look at 1986 or 1987 street directories. i couldn't locate it in my 1988 directory too, jus Lorong Puntong. i suppose they wanted to name the roads in Bishan West after Bishan Street 3? but they dropped the idea and renamed the roads back to Sin Ming ???.

Yusry SG

I said a dual junction with Nicoll Drive and not Upper Changi Road (now Changi Village Road).

The un-named stretch in your map is what I considered the 1st junction. The 2nd junction is as per your map.

Yusry SG

Before 1988, there was the 1984 streetdirectory. No indication of it there. Will check the 1991 directory when I go back to school.

There are no 1985, 86 and 87 street directories.

tranquilice SG

Too bad I didn't have both.

tranquilice SG

Hmm, to me, based on the map, Tlk Paku Rd has only a junction with Nicoll Dr. The other one shouldn't be counted in my view.

tranquilice SG

Both Bishan St 31 and Sin Ming Lane cannot be found in the 1991 street directory.
