Changes to svc 806 in the near future

As Yishun i/c, im posting this as early as possible instead of when the change is going to happen for information.

Source: Nee Soon East Constituency newsletter stating the acheievments of Assoc. Prof Ho Peng Kee. (the one featuring the northern general hospital ), Improvements to Transport section.

Svc 806 will be rerouted to serve ave 11 and ave 6 to serve Northview Primary School, and return to the interchange via ring rd through a new link which is currently under construction.

Which means, the route in the future is:
Yishun Int
Yishun Ctrl
Yishun Ave 11 ( blk 349, blk 4XX .... )
Yishun Ave 6 ( Northview Pri School )
Yishun St 4?
Yishun RIng Rd
Yishun Ave 9
Yishun Ctrl
Yishun Ave 2
Yishun Int

The link had not been named yet. It will link ave 6 to ring rd, and follows the path of the canal and the khatib bongsu park connector situated besides it.

since u're there, can u see if the new link is still in construction, ready or no work has started on it yet? tat could help gauge when the service change will occur. Smile

Last time I went by Yishun Ring Rd on the day Sv. 804 got O405Gs, there was no sign of construction.

Finally, the desolate Yishun Ave 6 gets a decent bus link to interchange. However, BusTrans Sv. 652 has been covering the void since April. Mr. Green

The new route can actually be implemented now, but return via Ave 9 instead. (between Ave 6 and Ring Rd)

That is correct, I'd rather they use existing infrastructure than build new ones. Or is the stretch of Ave 6 after the HDB flats too desolate, and they don't want a long express sector?

As seen on my 2002 street directory, there are no developments along Ave 6 after Blk 391. (towards Ave 9)

Yes, that's right? Are they scared of wasting resources by having such a long express sector?

Actually having express sector is good, can bring pax to their destinations faster.

Yes, you have a point there.

The link is not printed in even the latest street directory. However, if you notice closely on the 804 route, there had been an increased presence of excavators at the site of the proposed link. This wide expense of grass is normally used by the nearby temples for large events. Also, there are 2 traffic lights very close to each other, one is before the bus stop and another to allow cyclists and joggers to cross the road to continue the park connector. My guess is that they do not want to waste this traffic light cos most just ignore it ( including me ).

don't think they'll find it feasible making svc 806 into an "express" feeder svc since they could earn more money letting svc 806 ply yishun ring road, esp during peak hours. but once the new link is ready, they could have more reason to do so. Smile

Which is near the forested area I presume? Sv. 806 should go by the temple, it can prove a money-spinner during weekends. A road cutting through the forest wouldn't be too desirable. Lots of work when existing infrastructure is already in place.

YUpz. its near the forested area. However, I do not think that much revenue could be earned as a result of diverting it back to ring rd as comparitively fewer pax board it at that stop. Most buses just speed by.

By continuing along ave 6, it can also provide a link to ITE Yishun, hence svc 811A can be withdrawn to provide better coverage during peak hour. This is unlike the case for svc 804 where the nearest Link via ave 4 is rather far away.

btw, Neighbourhood 4 is incomplete. Is neighbourhood 5 going to be developed? I can only see forests there at N5 (near my tution ctr).

Not in the near future. This is because the N2 and N9 neighbourhoods had not been developed and there are suplus of flats further north in Sembawang.

Off topic, but who would like to live in Sembawang? very far from town...and with only MRT and 4 bus services (only 962 859 serving most of the neighborhood, 167 980 pass through)...I mean people would rather choose places like Sengkang or Woodlands...

actually i think it's Tibs (cos routes are there since Tibs times) likes to save on as many buses & routes as possible and provide the minimum. i can see how much connectivity improved when SBST took over Sengkang town, whose initial services were set by Tibs.

Think before you speak. This is a new town and people will move in from older estates. The way you speak make the Sembawang residents sound like refugees.

Now I tell you, I LIVE in Sembawang, and I'm quite happy with the SMRT services here, except one particular service.

Woodlands is only 15 mins by bus, 5 mins by train, not that far. To town, yes, it's far, but I have direct buses from town, or alternatives to Yishun and Woodlands. What's wrong with that? Sengkang is good? At least I don't suffer the after effects of NEL which left many complaining. I am a Sembawang resident and I am COMFORTABLY living here.

How ulu it is, there will be people living, almost anywhere in the world.

Goodness LeeJZ, are you really that ignorant? Well, perhaps with that statement you just proved it. Not everyone depends on bus services alone, much of the time, people would rather take MRT. The furthest part of Sembawang is a mere 10 mins walk from MRT, not a big distance away.
