SBS 789J is a new convert. It served Sv. 156 before leaving the fleet after NEL rationalization exercise. Last seen roaming around C'menti services.

Have a few questions about the buses used for sv 170.

a)What components of the buses used are different from normal ones? I know the emergency door has been repainted red and white stripes. There is an addition light( brake light?) above the advertisement panel on the rear.There is the Malaysian speed limit sticker pasted also. Of coz the green sign saying Larkin and Queen Street . What else?

b) Must the buses used to ply sv170 be of white and red body with old SBS logo? Can/ Have any buses which had been repainted with red and purple coat be used on 170?

c) Cos I saw a SBS 829C (red/purple coat) on Sv 63. It has a additional brake light above the rear ad panel. Should be reserved for Sv 170 or any other reason? I can think of it being transferred from Sv 170 into other services but i dont remember seeing this bus on Sv 170 b4. Why is this bus (SBS 829C) so special?

Buses painted with the new SBS Transit livery cannot be used on Sv 170 because of political reasons - needs permission from Johor officials. Bueracratic stuff.

As for 892C, perhaps that bus was originally one reserved for Sv 170 (SBS has loads of MK3s, about 60+ reserved for Sv 170 at BBDEP) but then SBS decided they had enough so they transferred that bus out to other services?

Many of the other JB MK 3s are having their repainting and might go on 170 cos I think the Malaysia autorities let them in (????). Those with brake light spoil (bbdep proposely make spoil one) are not those that are going into Malaysia.

difference between 170 MKIIIs and normal MKIIIs:
the buses have a seat barrier along some rows of seats lining the asile of the bus
engine/gearbox refurbished
interior comprises maroon plastic
3rd brake light
KTM sticker on doors --> no alighting at KTM station
COE label at the front of the bus (near the right wiper when viewed from the front)
details of SBST's address etc on the side of the bus (painted in black)
information panels above the windows/along the roof giving details of the frequency of the service/immigration details

Its not details of frequency but a fare table. Sv. 170 is categorized as "Bas Henti-Henti" (literally it means "stop-stop bus" and it implies to buses which call at request stops.) Operators of buses in this category must display a copy of the fare table, which had been approved by the authorities, on every bus that serve a particular route. Besides this, a copy of the operating licence must also be displayed.

This one looks manually sprayed on it instead of a sticker. It is 2.5 times bigger than normal mk3 addresses.

Ah... no wonder the 170 I boarded earlier today felt so smooth and comfortable for an MKIII. Even the brakes are so smooth.

Of course. Except for the third brake light (which was not mandatory when the Mk 2 served 170) everything else was in place.

I think the third brake light regulation was enacted before the Mk IIIs went north. Striders were once considered to be used for Sv. 170, interestingly.

Suprisingly most of the JB MK3s i’ve board before doesn’t had any peoples vandalised it.

I spotted one repainted JB Mark 3 this morning operating on Service 32. This is what I saw:-

Fresh coat of paint
Malaysian speed-limit sticker
Working third brake light
New black box with updated details, ie SBS Transit Limited
"Pintu Kecemasan" sticker pasted at the exterior of the emergency exit door

Based on that, I have a feeling that Malaysian authorities have allowed or will allow the deployment of SBS Transit-liveried JB Mark 3s. This could take place very soon, I hope.
