And I think after the rescue efforts, service 16 may be diverted to serve Stadium area and exiting at Nicoll Highway and then continuing it's route via Mountbatten Road.

Yeah, very misleading road name.

Anyway, for the record, the name of the road is Nicoll Highway and the name of the bridge is called Merdeka Bridge.

Temporary Diversion Of Bus Services Along Nicoll Highway

Due to the collapse of Nicoll Highway, five SBS Transit Services, namely Services 10, 14, 16, 70 and 196 will be diverted to ply along Mountbatten Road, Geylang Road, Kallang Road, Jalan Sultan, Beach Road and Bras Basah Road before resuming the original route towards the city. In the return direction, these services would be diverted to ply Bras Basah Road / Stamford Road, Beach Road, Jalan Sultan, Sims Avenue, Geylang Lor 1 and Mountbatten Road until further notice.

Meanwhile, we have deployed Traffic Inspectors and patrol cars on site to assist passengers at two pairs of bus stops along the affected stretch of road.

Why is service 401 not mentioned in the SBST press release?

Services 16, 401 and 608 buses may not ply National Stadium area as these buses cannot use Nicoll Highway to/from Mountbatten Rd. Service 11 may enter and exits via Stadium Boulevard. This is because Nicoll Highway between Middle Rd and Mountbatten Rd is closed to traffic. Refer to LTA press release http://app.lta.gov.sg/corp_press_content.asp?start=1001

I wonder why the buses are diverted to ply Jln Sultan instead of Crawford St?

Think it was very lucky. If any vehicles were there, it would add to more casualties. Thank goodness it happened during off peak.

Read today's papers. According to eyewitness accounts, there was a huge ball of fire that made drivers stop before the accident site.

That was why there were no casualties other than the construction workers and equipment.
