IMO,Most drivers find the long distances services is a hurdle for them due to the long hours of driving.

Sv 30? Thats not too long...I think Sv 14 is even longer...

Off topic, but on Sv 30, why SBS make it bypass the city via the ECP? Wouldn't it be better just to go via Shenton Way like Sv 10? Not too say I dont like it though, the view ontop of the ECP esp the Benjamin Shears Bridge is excellent Smile

In the 80s, Svc 30 used to go through Shenton Way too but I have no idea when it was amended to ply ECP. I am not very sure of the reason why too. Is it to replace the lost route when SBST removed Svc 8?

I think one reason is to link Dunman High students with Paya Lebar and Tg Katong & beyond. Some DHS students take 30 to school from Eunos and Paya Lebar you know... Smile

The official reason used on the notice-of-change was to speed up the link to the west, which I agree since it takes me only about 45 minutes or less to get to NUS from Eunos.

Correspondingly, Service 10 was diverted to use Tg Katong Road, Dunman Road and Old Airport Road instead of plying directly along Mountbatten Road like service 196.

It bypasses the city area for a fast east-west link. Services 10, 70 and 196 now covers its route in the city area.

Service 30 was amended to ply ECP in late June 1992.

During then, service 30 ply express along Nicoll Highway between Bras Basah Rd/Raffles Blvd and Merdeka bridge, as the 2 pairs of bus stops near Suntec City and The Concourse did not exist then.

Agreed. The fastest time that I got from Bedok to opposite Henderson HDB estate is 30 mins and that's by taking Svc 30. In fact, taking Svc 30 is my staple trip to get to NUS everyday.

That is indeed true, perhaps if Sv. 30 went by normal roads your journey could possibly be doubled!
