What will happen to HG South Services when it close down?

Days are numbering for Hougang Sth. Hope that the land will be better used like MSCP or community area as it's going to be. Hope to get a photo of it.

Currently, there's 4 trunk services and 5 feeder services left in HG South Int. 51, 62, 132, 151, 321, 322, 326, 327, 328. Of which, one of them, 62, was proposed to extend to Punggol on Sunday 7th December. What will happen to the rest when it closes down in Mid-Feb next year? Here's my speculation of the amended routes of the remaining services.

Service 51:
Hougang Central Int, Hougang Ave 10, Hougang Ave 2, Hougang Ave 3, and continue via existing route.

Service 132:
Hougang Central Int, Upp Serangoon Rd, Hougang Ave 2, and continue via existing route.

Service 151:
Hougang Central int, Upp Serangoon Rd, Hougang Ave 2, Hougang Ave 3, and continue via existing route.

Note: Svc 51 & 151 can either swap their amended routes or both of them use one of the suggested amended routes.

Service 321:
Hougang Central Int, Upp Serangoon Rd, Hougang St 21, Hougang Ave 1, Lor Ah Soo, Hougang St 11, Upp Paya Lebar Rd, Lor Ah Soo, Hougang Ave 1, Hougang St 21, Upp Serangoon Rd, Hougang Central Int.

Service 322: (To be integrated with Svc 327)

321 and 326 likely to be withdrawn because of 62's extended journey... 322 may also be withdrawn because got 132 to ply Hougang Ave 2 (assuming your route is the actual future route), 165, 74, 147 to ply Hougang Ave 8, 72 to ply Hougang Ave 4 and Hougang Ave 9, 325 to ply Hougang Ave 9 and for St 92 where it loops, there are only 2 bus-stops which SBS Transit might skip because they are usually deserted and is within walking distance to the Hougang Ave 9 bus-stop... Don't think SBS Transit will give a damn about people who want to go from say Hougang Ave 2 to Hougang Ave 9... They'll just force people to take 132 to Hougang Central to change to 72 or 325... Anyway for 151, think once it turns left from Upp Serangoon Rd (i.e. like 72), it'll reach Hougang Ave 3 already... It'll not go through Hougang Ave 2... Also I think 51 likely to go by your suggested 151 amended route because it's already got a long journey and it would be preferable to turn in to Hougang Central ASAP instead of going by a slightly longer route via Hougang stadium and Hougang Ave 10... But then again, it's not confirmed that all these 3 trunk services will be relocated to Hougang Central... The press release said most will probably be, so there's still the possibility that some might be extended to say Sengkang or Punggol (51 very unlikely though).

I was thinking if there is enough space to accomodate all the current routes at Hougang South. This is my speculation, which will only add 3 services (51, 132 and 322) to Hougang Central Int:

SERVICE 51: To be extended to Hougang Central Int (Hougang Central Int, Upp S'goon Rd, Hougang Ave 3 and continue via its existing route). This provides a link for the older residents living near Hougang CC to go to downtown and Chinatown without adding too much trip time to the already long trip from Jurong East.

SERVICE 132: To be extended to Hougang Central Int (Hougang Central Int, Hougang Central, Ave 10, Ave 8, Ave 7, Tampines Rd, Hougang St 21, Upp S'goon Rd and continue via its existing route to Bt Merah Int) This provides a link to Kovan MRT from Hougang Ave 2 and 7.

SERVICE 151: To be extended to Sengkang Int via Sengkang Int via Compassvale Dr, Rivervale Dr, Sengkang East Way, Anchorvale Rd, Acnchorvale Dr, Anchorvale Link, Sengkang East Ave, Sengkang Central, Hougang Ave 6, Hougang Ave 10, Hougang Ave 2, Hougang Ave 3 and continue via its existing route. This provides a link between Sengkang and MacPherson. It is somewhat like the case of SBST 156's extension from Serangoon Int to Sengkang Int.

SERVICE 321: Withdrawn. Existing route covered by SBST 62 which bypasses Hougang Aves 1, 2, 3, 6, 8 and 10 on its way from Punggol Int to Geylang Lor 1 Ter.

SERVICE 322: To be amended to operate from Hougang Central Int (Hougang Central Int, Hougang Ave 5, Ave 7, Ave 3, Ave 2 and continue on its existing route to Hougang St 92).

SERVICE 325: Amended to ply Hougang Ave 6 instead of Ave 10 to provide a shorter and faster link (Hougang Central Int, Hougang Central, Ave 10, Ave 6, Ave 8 and continue on its existing route to Hougang St 91).

SERVICE 326: Withdrawn. Existing route covered by SBST 62, amended SBST 151, amended SBST 325 (Ave 6) and SBST 89 (Ave 10 Blk 421).

SERVICE 327: Withdrawn. Existing route covered by amended SBST 132 and 322.

SERVICE 328: Withdrawn. Existing route covered by SBST 72 and 325.

Like that 132 would make a very very long detour like 28 in Tampines.... I think this is very unlikely... If SBS Transit key aim is to provide a link to Kovan MRT from Hougang Ave 2 (from Hougang stadium onwards to before Serangoon North, i.e. near the tunnel), they can just extend 132 to Serangoon instead... In fact, I think SBS Transit would rather get people to take a bus to Hougang Central and take the NEL to Kovan instead of being so nice and providing people along Hougang Ave 2 and Hougang Ave 7 with direct links to Kovan.

Isn't a bad idea to extend 151 to Sengkang as it also provides NUS students living in Sengkang a direct link...

Speaking of which, I visited HGC Int on Sunday and found out there's space to accomodate at least 7 more svc there due to the no. of boarding berths there.

It seems a good idea of extending Svc 132 to Serangoon Int but there might be a bad side to it.
1. Amended Svc 132 duplicates Svc 81 from Kovan to Serangoon.
2. Serangoon Int is starting to get packed with Services especially after the latest round of the NEL Rationalisation.

Sengkang Interchange is quite packed already. There's still a large part of the estate not served by services (i.e Sengkang West). It's least likely that any service would be extended to Sengkang.

On analysing the Amended Svc 62, it seems like Svc 326 & Svc 321 will definitely be withdrawn. SBST wont duplicate the amended 62. Maybe SBST may intend to integrate one of the feeder services with either 132 or 151. My suggestion: 132 and 327 (as what ^tamago^ pointed out). How about a Townlink? Wink [/quote]

There may be enough boarding berths there but not necessarily enough parking spaces for 7 more services... 74 and 147 take up the majority of the parking spaces there now...

yes, agreed that amended 132 duplicates 81 from kovan to serangoon and not to forget 107 will also be starting this sunday... so it's up to sbs transit's decision if they want to have another service duplicating this 2 NEL stations lor...

Erm I think Serangoon might still be able to accomodate 132... 103 and 82 are shifting there while 107 is getting out... So shifting 132 there means a net gain of 2 services only...

Sengkang interchange packed? Not really... Can still accomodate more services... After 501, 502 and 85 were withdrawn, only 103 (and 83) is going to be (was) amended (introduced) to terminate there. Besides in the future the LRT will serve as the feeder system in Sengkang and 371 and 372 will be withdrawn in the future anyway.

Besides Sengkang interchange 1 more service can be extended to Punggol... The temporary interchange can accomodate just 1 more service

SBS Transit did promise to help out the shopkeeers and tenants at Hougang South to some extent after the interchange has closed. So i believe that SBST 132 will be the service that will ply the area after the bus interchange has closed down. Why? A lot of the customer base for Hougang South also comes from Ang Mo Kio and a lot of Ang Mo Kio residents do shop at Hougang South (or else they wouldn't have kept SBST 132 there for so long with VOs running), not counting those living on the NEL and taking trains. So i believe that a detour it may be to turn into Hougang St 21, it is still the logical move. A lot were also expecting it to pass by Kovan on its way to Serangoon Int, but i believe Serangoon is too crowded and is not a good "passenger catchment" area until the sub-regional centre is up some years later. so it has to turn back to Hougang Central.

it is a good thing to hear that there are enough spaces to accomodate, in Hougang Central, the services from Hougang South. but i suppose SBS Transit will make use of this chance to rid the feeder services and remove redundancy. after all, why they pursued so hard to have feeder services' fares be on par with that of trunk services? they got now get ppl to take 62, 72, 74, 82, 88, 159 and so on to get around the town. i suppose if there's 7 spaces available, not extending SBST 151 to Sengkang Int will still mean only 4 out of 7 spaces are taken and that's rather "comfortable" for the Hougang South services to settle down there. but i think one trunk service should end up in Sengkang or Punggol, and SBST 151 is the best candidate for this, even if we have to squeeze jus one more service in the crowded Sengkang Interchange or having to go that extra mile to the far-away Punggol Int. and if it's Sengkang, it could most probably share the berth with 80 and 86.

regarding the situation of crowding at Sengkang Interchange, they could let services plying the bus stop at Sengkang East Way jus outside Compass Point (SBST 156 and 159), which is sheltered all the way into Compass Point and Sengkang Interchange, to allow boarding only from there instead of inside the interchange.

Hougang Central interchange currently has a total of 6 berths (each with 3 queue lines), that makes a total of 18 queue lines. Now, 8 are taken up, meaning the remaining 10 are empty. I'm not sure about parking lots, but I think they are almost full.

Well what makes you think SBS will follow up on its promise? After all, the LTA is building a multi-storey carpark in place at the interchange to compensate for the loss of bus passengers going there...

So many empty berths. For instance each berth only has an average of 2 services! Sv. 325 has its own dedicated berth, same for Sv. 89. Which berth will Sv. 107 use I wonder?

Actually I suggest Svc 119 to be extended and loop at Lorong Ah Soo...extending it to Serangoon Interchange...hmmmz...would duplicate Svc 53?

Svc 51 could be cut to Eunos...and perhaps a new service could be introduced to ply between NE (Hougang-SK-Punggol) corridor...at most Svc 51 would go to Hougang Central...

Maybe one service of HG Central would be taken out and extended to Punggol?

Svc 151 or Svc 132 are best candidates to be extended to Serangoon...although it would duplicate Svc 81 and Svc 82 up to Serangoon Interchange though...they need to keep at least one link to Kovan though...

Someone suggesting merging Svc 315 and Svc 325 or i dunno wat svc to become a long service...why not? After all there's a long windy service 73..60......so why not a long windy service between HG Central and S'goon.

Services 107 and 89 may use the same berth. This berth formerly has service 97 which ply the same route of extended service 107 from the interchange up to junction of Bendemeer Rd/Geylang Bahru.

My proposed service 119 create a link between Hougang St 21 itself and Serangoon Central, as an alternative to NEL Kovan - Serangoon and services 81/82 along Upp Serangoon Rd.

It's me who suggest the integration of services 315 and 325. Recently, many feeder services were integrated to become trunk services, ie. services 3, 38, 60. The new trunk service I proposed will create new link between Hougang Central/Hougang North and Serangoon North/Serangoon Garden.
