1. Probably to test if the bus is roadworthy or test out new technologies like the VLS. It is very hard to determine.

3. By Causeway Link buses, do you mean the yellow buses that depart Kranji MRT every morning? If that is what you mean, there is no bus stops in Malaysia. After the JB Checkpoint, they will transport you directly to Larkin Bus Terminal.

No, CW1 stops at Kota Raya terminal before heading to Larkin even though almost nobody uses the terminal.

CW1 can take/drop passengers at any bus stop along its route in M'sia. It doesn't run express. People tend to think that way because hardly anyone board/alight the bus between the checkpoint and the terminal. I personally have encountered people boarding the bus or alighting from it enroute to Larkin or the JB immigration checkpoint.
